Benson

After dinner, she showed me some things she'd been working on with the project. To say that I was impressed would be an understatement. Faith has me so excited about this project that I have reached out to some builders that I've worked with in the past. I like how this project is coming together.

Neither of our schedules has lined up to see each other again, but we have talked on the phone. We always start talking about the project, but then our conversations move to what is going on in our lives. I'm happy that Faith steers clear of my past with women. I know I'll eventually have to come clean, but I want to take this thing I have with Faith slowly.

I know that she'll be worth the wait. I don't understand what this woman is doing to me, but I will not lie; I like it. I find myself wanting to hear her voice and thoroughly enjoy our conversations. She's funny, intelligent, and calls me out on my bullshit. I've had no desire to pick up one-night stands, and this baffles me. How could one woman turn my life 180 degrees?

My thoughts of Faith are interrupted by my intercom buzzing.

"Yes, Cindy?"

"Sir, you need to see this," she replies.

The seriousness of her voice takes me aback. "See what?"

"Mr. Crawford's article," is Cindy's response.

"Shit! Bring it in," I request of her.

The next thing I know, Cindy comes into my office. "It's about the twins."

"What? The twins? What the hell did that fucker say?" I am pissed before I even read one word of that asshole's article.

She hands me the article and has already highlighted Double Faced's part of the article. I read it, and the more I read, the more pissed I got. The part that gets me is where he writes about Faith's response to his marriage and baby question. He pretty much paints them as men-hating spinsters insulted by the question regarding marriage and family as part of their ten-year plan. He printed that they could use a real man to loosen the two of them up.

I don't wait; I pick up my phone and dial Faith's cell phone.

"Hey, Benson, what's up?" she answers cheerfully, and I feel bad for the bomb I'm about drop on her.

"I'm guessing that you didn't read Crawford's article?" I ask hesitantly.

I can hear the breath leave her body, "No, I didn't."

"Don't. I'm on my way. Please wait for me to be there before you read it," I request.

"That bad, huh," she replies with distaste.

"You and Grace will not like it," I warn as I head to my car. "I would like for Grace to be there too if that's at all possible?"

"I'll talk to her now, but I cannot guarantee that she'll wait for you to get here before looking into what Crawford wrote," she admits to me.

"I understand. I want to be there for you." I stress because I have this genuine desire to protect her.

"My knight in shining armor!" she giggles.

"I'm now only ten minutes away. Are you okay if I call my parents, you know, if you want to take legal action against Crawford or the magazine?" I inquire.

"Do you think that's necessary?" she replies, surprised.

"I'll wait and let you and Grace decide, but this is right up their alley," I explain.

"That's good to know that we have them as an option," she adds with appreciation.

"Five minutes," I announce.

"I'm going to go get Grace. Come straight into the conference room," she instructs me.

"I'll be there before you know it." We hang up, and I look at the article again. This asshole deserves for you to sue for everything he has for the defamation of Faith and Grace!

As promised, I arrived moments later and bolted into the Double Faced office.

Right away, I see Liza.

"Conference room?" I ask.

She shakes her head, and I can see how upset she is. I guess that she looked up the article online. I nod at her with understanding.

I'm surprised when Grace speaks to me as I enter the conference room.

"What the hell do we have to do to take this fucker down." Grace is pissed, and I know right away that she also looked at the article.

I look towards Faith, and she seems embarrassed.

"I'm sorry, Benson. I didn't wait." She looks down, and I step right up and take her into my arms.

"It's okay, Babe. I just wanted to be here for you." I claim as I cradle her head in my hand.

After a few moments, Grace's patience had met its limit. "Faith said that your parents could help us sue this asshole! He's going to fuck up our business!"

While still holding Faith, I respond. "My parents are a phone call away." I reach for my phone and hand it to Grace. "Push Pop."

She smiles at me for the first time and hits Pops. She puts it on speaker.

"Hello, son; what can I do for you?"

"Hey, Pops, I have a huge favor for some friends," I tell him.

"Okay, when and where do you need me?" I love my fucking dad.

"Double Faced Advertising as soon as possible, please, and thank you!"

"I'm on my way, son."

"Thanks, Pop!" Grace hangs up.

"Thank you." The sweetest fucking voice whispers into my chest.

"Anytime, my sweet Faith, any time!" I seriously mean every word that I speak to this woman.

Liza breaks up the tension in the room by bringing in coffee for everyone.

I reluctantly release Faith. Right away, I miss her warmth in my arms. The three of us sit at the conference table.

Grace speaks up first. "This is a disaster."

"If it makes you feel any better, I've been here. By the end, the assholes regretted their decision to slander me, and it was all due to my parents," I disclose to the ladies in an attempt to give them some peace.

"Did he think that he would get away with this?" Faith speaks up.

"I admit that I didn't get a good feel on him and his take on women when he was leaving my interview to interview you," I reveal.

"What do you mean?" Grace asks.

"He had just commented on how gorgeous you twins were, how intelligent you are, and that you're from old money. He said that you two were, how did he put it, the fucking trifecta! Right away, I thought that he said it without an ounce of professionalism," I inform them of Crawford's words to me.

They both look at me with shock on their face.

I realize right then and there that I'll protect Faith and Grace with everything that I have.
