You Should See Me in A Crown is now one of my favorite books. Johnson manages to weave such hope into a beautifully written story about friendship, family, and romance. As a 2020 high school senior, this book made me glad I missed my prom as well as made up for the fact I didn't have one. I love how Johnson handles topics of race, sexuality, anxiety, death, and chronic illness delicately, but powerfully. Every single chapter is a treat and filled with fun illusions to other popular media. Liz Lighty is a relatable and strong main character that high school readers will definitely cheer on. I highly, highly recommend this book to anyone who needs to feel encouraged.
