Midnight Thoughts

I know little of the mysteries of this universe,

but I know why Sunrise is longer than sunset.

And it begins in the softest of blues and pinks,

Almost teasing in its affection.

It ends in navies and reds,  a rude mockery of what once was.

And it's beyond me to criticize the sun,

But why should something do soft and gentle end in harsh seconds?

Why would someone so loving and kind,  use all their weaponry against someone defenseless?

Most of all

Why would you do that to me?

Because that's what our love was.

A ticking time bomb wrapped in ribbon,

The sand slipping faster as it empties from my hand.

You left me in the night waiting for the sunrise.

But I guess they know what they mean when they say pull the band-aid off quickly.
