Chapter 1 - Party?

Beep! Beep! Beep! Clarke jolts awake to the sound of her alarm clock and groans loudly. Just another day of school.

"Honey if you get ready quick I can drive you to school," Clarke hears her mom yell from the kitchen. She sighs and rolls out of bed, her cold feet land on the fluffy rug beneath her. Rubbing her eyes, she walks over to her closet and looks inside. So many clothes but none that I want to wear. She thinks to herself. Clarke starts taking out different outfits and imagines herself wearing them. Seeing what others would see. She thinks of Lexa Woods. The hot brunette girl that plays on the lacrosse team. Clarke rolls her eyes at herself, sure that she doesn't even know she exists.

"Clarke!" Abby yells again.

"I'm coming!" Clarke throws on the outfit in her hands, grabs her backpack and phone, and rushes out of the bedroom. There's no time for makeup.

Clarke feels the cool glass of the car window against her forehead. Abby's next to her carefully watching the road while talking about work. She says how she saw a new patient yesterday that had a broken arm. She also mentions Marcus. Marcus Kane. Clarke's mom has been talking about him a lot lately, always finding a way to bring him up in conversations. Clarke zones out, not wanting to hear about this new man. She hasn't met him yet, but could never imagine her mother falling in love with someone other than her dad. Her father passed away from cancer two years ago and Clarke's life has never quite been the same since.

As they turn a corner Clarke can see Arkadia High not far down the road. She smiles at the thought of seeing her friends, especially Raven and Octavia. The three girls have been best friends since second grade. They were always caught doing weird shit together in elementary school. One time a kid tattled on Octavia when they saw her use a rock to cut off a mouse's head. Now Octavia and Raven are dating but luckily that hasn't changed anything in their friendship.

Abby pulls into the parking lot and Clarke jumps out of the car.

"Bye honey. I love you," Abby calls. Clarke rolls her eyes and smiles at her mom as she slams the door shut. She drives off and Clarke turns around to see Octavia and Raven waiting by the front door. Their usual meeting place.

Raven runs over and gives Clarke a big excited hug. "Hello! Hello! Hello!" She screams.

"Hi," Clarke laughs. "How much coffee have you had today?"

"Not much." Raven answers.

"Two full cups in the last hour," Octavia corrects as she walks up behind Raven. "This is her third," she says handing the Starbucks cup back to Raven.

"Oh gosh, Raven. You gotta chill." Clarke says shocked.

Raven grins. "Since when do I do that?" Her long brown ponytail whips as she turns around and starts walking into the school. The other girls follow, laughing, not knowing how to contain their crazy friend.

They arrive at their lockers and stuff their backpacks inside. Raven pulls out a circuit board with different coloured wires hanging off.

"Hey look at this!" She says as she dangles it in front of Octavia's face. "I made it in my after school mechanic class at the community hall."

"Wow." Octavia sighs, slightly rolling her eyes as she takes her notebook out of her locker. "Why is it here at school?"

"So I can bore you with all the techy details about how it works, duh."
