It was Sunday evening and I was helping my mom with the restaurant. My mom was gracious and gave her employees Sunday off (and has cycles on who gets off the other days). Gabriela usually came by to help on Sundays and earn a little extra cash. Gabriela and I are really close. We've been friends for years and our parents are best friends, which is kind of weird, but gives us the advantage of getting to hang out at anytime.
"Gabriela is here," Gabriela yelled, running through the back of the kitchen and grabbing the receipt book and pen from my hand. "Good. Mom, I've got the register and drinks." I yelled out to my mother, who was currently cooking. Lunch rush was always packed.
Just as I handed over some drinks to Gabi the door opened and I saw Dan walk through. He saw me at the register and flashed a smile at me. Gabi was back at the register before Dan even took a step in the direction, "oh, looks like lover boy's here." I looked at her, giving her a weird look as I laughed.
"Go do your job," I said, punching her shoulder lightly. She laughed, picking the receipt book off the counter and walking off. Dan reached the counter and came to the back. "I just wanted to hang out, but it looks like we have to act all couple-y?" He asked, sitting down on the stool and smiling at me. I laughed under my breath. "Yeah, looks like it," I mumbled.
"Well, we can start with this," he took my hand into his intertwining our fingers. I looked over at Gabriela, who made a kissy face at Dan & I. I laughed at her and Dan looked over at her. She instantly stopped when she saw Dan.
"Wow.." Dan laughed out, looking back over at me. "I know," I mumbled, shaking my head. Gabriela came over to the counter for drinks to take out to customers, obviously trying to avoid Dan as much as possible after what just happened. Gabriela leaned over and whispered in my ear, "Well, you two aren't very romantic." I laughed and she walked off, winking at me.
"What'd she say?" Dan asked, giving me a weird look. "Just that we aren't being very romantic." Dan laughed slightly and looked away. "I hope this doesn't get to the point where we have to kiss because that would certainly make things awkward." I pointed out. Dan looked back at me, a side smirk growing across is face. "Hey, that wouldn't be too bad." He said, still smirking. I took my hand away from him and lightly slapped his shoulder, laughing.

Phil dropped by later, saying it was boring at his flat. It was almost closing time so not many people were in the restaurant. Gabi sat on the counter, tapping a pen onto the top. Phil was talking to Dan about something, but I wasn't paying attention. I was sat beside Dan, his hand resting on my thigh.
I heard my mom yell to flip the open sign to closed and Dan patted my knee, "I'll go do it." I nodded as he got up. I looked over at Phil, who was smirking. Gabi was giving me a weird look, "You okay, Riles?" I nodded, "Yeah, I think I'm just a little tired." The look she gave me let me know that she didn't believe me.
Dan came back and sat back down. I leaned against him a little. He got the hint and wrapped his arm around my shoulder. I rested my head on his shoulder, closing my eyes. My mind was racing. I think I'm starting to actually have feelings for Dan.
