Henry's phone buzzes furiously. Texts from his sister and parents asking him where he is and informing him that everything is ready. He sends them each a quick text to let them know he will be there shortly.
Charlotte: HELLO SIR!!!!!
Charlotte says as she grabs Henry's phone, putting it away in one of her now many empty drawers.
Henry: hey! I was using that!!!!
Charlotte: you can text whichever girl that was later!!!! You're here to help me pack, remember?
Henry sighs sadly as he remembers the fact that his best friend is leaving for dystopia for a whole year to start a charity then after that go straight off to college.
Henry: how can I forget? I've never seen your room so empty
Charlotte: yeah me too......enough sad stuff!!!! No crying remember the pact we made?......did jasper arrived safely in Arizona?
She asks her distracted best friend as she packs the last items in her room.
Henry: yeah he got there fine
Charlotte: why did he leave again? He doesn't have to go off to college for at least another 3 months
Henry winces at the word college. Charlotte notices.
Charlotte: sorry
Henry: don't be!!! Don't be!!! Its not your fault I wasted my life being kid danger and blew off school and life in general!!!!
Charlotte: you didn't waste your life!!! You've saved lives!!!
Henry: and look the good that did me
Charlotte: henry...
Henry: its okay char I'm fine!!!! Everything is fine!!! No sad stuff remember?...... Oh jasper went to Arizona to stick it to his relatives who thought he'd end up jail
Charlotte let's out a quiet laugh
Charlotte: I'm sure he was looking forward to doing that!!!
Henry: he was, he sent me videos!! Wanna see?
Charlotte: hehehe maybe later
Henry: there is no later
He whispers but Charlotte still hears it. He's been doing that ever since kid danger's funeral, 2 months ago, letting sentences like that slip out, his true feelings, Charlotte presumes but every time she brings it up he changes the subject.
Charlotte: hen do you want to.....
Henry: are you done packing yet? We're going to miss the movie
He interrupts her. Desperately trying to change topic. He doesn't want to talk about it. About anything, its all a little too much right now. Its best to bury it all deep down. For now at least, he's trying his best to be happy for his best friend and the exciting new chapter in her life.
Charlotte: yes I'm done no thanks to you!!!
Henry: hey I helped!!!!
Charlotte: wha... You just sat there on your phone all day and ate my gummy bears
Henry: you're welcome!!! It was hard work!!!
Charlotte: wow
She laughs. Wholeheartedly. Its been a while since she's done that. It makes henry smile.
