Y/n's POV :

I sat quietly besides Aang as he slept. I woke up a couple hours ago back in the Southern Water Tribe village and I had decided to sit with my brother until he woke up. As Aang starts to flinch and move around I can tell he is having a nightmare. Katara suddenly walks in and works on waking up Aang. "Aang! Aang, wake up! It's okay. We're in the village now. Come on, get ready. Everyone's waiting to meet you guys." Katara said with excitement in her voice as my brother puts on his shirt and hood.

Katara looks at both our tattoos as she grabs his hand and drags him outside and Aang grabs his glider as we leave. I think about my glider remembering I sat it in Appa's saddle before Aang and I crashed. As we stepped out we see lots of women and children. Katara introduced us, " Aang and Y/n , this is the entire village. Entire village, Y/n and Aang."

Aang and I bow towards the village but they all step back. we both look up and at each other confused. "Uh... why are they all looking at us like that? Did Appa sneeze on one of us?" Aang asks in confusion. An older woman steps towards us from the crowd as Aang looks at his clothes and mine. "Well, no one has seen an airbenders in a hundred years. We thought they were extinct until my granddaughter and grandson found you two." The older woman stated. Aang and I looks up confused and questions, " 'Extinct'?" Katara introduces the old woman as her grandmother. The woman now know as Katara's grandmother says, "Call me Gran Gran."

Sokka grabs Aang's glider and says, "What is this, a weapon? You can't stab anything with this." I roll my eyes at his comment as Aang creates a jet of air that sucks the staff back into his hand. "It's not for stabbing Sokka. The air Nomads are known for being peaceful" I say and Aang continues by saying, "It's for airbending." Aang open his glider to show its red wings, I think back to my glider remembering how I made my glider's wings a nice orange color.

Aang starts to showoff by using the glider and inevitably crashing into a pillar of snow; I walk towards Gran Gran as she leads Katara to do her chores. I only hear the last bit of the conversation when Katara says, "But he's special. I can tell. I sense he's filled with much wisdom." She looks back at my brother who now has his tongue stuck to the ice on his glider. I roll my eyes again and laugh quietly at his antics.

Once Katara is far enough I step up to Gran Gran and politely ask, "Excuse me, Gran Gran. I was wondering if you could tell me what you meant by the airbenders being extinct." Gran Gran nods her head and gives me a sad smile. She leads me to one of the igloos and begin to explain everything.

Narrator POV:

As Gran Gran explains the Hundred year war to Y/n, Katara finds Aang near where Sokka was 'training' his soldiers. The two of them take a canoe and find many penguins. The two of them go penguin sledding and end up in front of an abandoned fire navy ship. Aang insists the two of them explore it and they do. But them end up triggering one of the booby traps in the ship causing a flare to shot up. This catches the attention of the fire nation's exiled prince and he realizes he finally found the Avatar.
