"Hayden?" I said, giving him a puzzled look. He looked like an adult Inkling, but there are too many features that distinguished him from us. His ears are short and round, not long and sharp. His eyes didn't have the black masquerade that we have around our eyes, and the color was dim rather than colorful, his hair was the most notable feature as rather than tentacles, he had short black fur on top of his head. "Hayden? Such a common name for an exotic looking person," He gave me a slightly annoyed glare but masked with curiosity. "Exotic?" he said, and I replied with a smug smile.
"You have some similarities, but you're no Inkling or even an Octoling. What exactly are you, Hayden?" my curiosity was starting to get more excited, and I began to make up some theories in my head. My best approach was that he's a mutant that came from the lab of the Great Professor Inkenstein. I waited anxiously for his answer, but what came out was a little disappointing. "I am a human," he said, but I didn't believe him for a second, humans have been extinct for thousands upon thousands of years, and one decides to pop up out of nowhere. I gave him a deadpan look "A human, really," with disbelief coming from my voice. He's probably hiding the fact that he's a mutant, ashamed of his history.
"Yes, I am a human, and I just came out of cryo," his rough tone seems to be telling the truth, but I have to be extra sure. I put my hand on my chin and gave my best thinking pose "I don't believe you, humans are supposed to be way taller, and you're pretty short for one," At this point, I was having fun the longer I talked to him. He gave me a very annoyed look and mumbled under his breath, something about being the "tallest of the group," but I may not have heard him correctly.
"Ignoring that comment and that question, I want to ask you something," he said, looking straight at me. I just gave a huff to let him know that he can ask me anything. "How do you know English?" I gave a smug smile, "Well I don't know what English is but if you mean humanese I learned it from my time working at this museum," He looked to cringe when I said humanese, but he started to get a little more interested, "Well, can I look inside?", "The museum isn't open right now," he gave a disappointed look. "But since you look like a history man, I allow you inside as a little tour of the building," I finished with a big smile on my face.
I've only seen a few people excited for a museum, and all of them are kids, never from someone taller than me. I grabbed my keys from my pocket and unlocked the door. I opened the door for Hayden, which he accepted and walked inside. I looked over to one of the wooden benches and forgot about my little nephew sitting with her sluggish friend. "Cora, you're coming?" she looked at me before shaking Austin awake, "Coming!" and as Austin awoke, she walked through the door, and I patted her on the head. Austin attempted to catch up with Cora, but I patted his head and let him through nonetheless.
