Henry paced around his office letting out a groan of frustration as he waited for Justin, it had been three days! Three days and he had heard nothing from his son, as a matter of fact his calls no longer even went through, no calls went through to Davis' phone anymore, not on his phone, not using his wife's phone, hell not even his work telephone went through anymore. He had thought that Davis had been messing around but the more days that passed, the more worried he got, Maria was none the wiser as she thought he and Davis a had had a heart to heart and that Henry had allowed Davis to go down to his grandparents early and so her mind had been put at ease-her husband had no reason to lie and she had no reason to believe that he was lying to her.Henry's back had been towards the door as he began to pace yet again, Justin pushed the door open and knocked lightly, Henry turned around and Justin could immediately tell that something was wrong. Henry gestured for him to come in and he did so, letting the door close solidly behind him. The silence of the room making the usually dull thus of the door shutting sound abnormally loud. "Davis is gone. He ran away in the early morning on Saturday." There was a brief pause as the information sunk in before Justin began to panic as well. "What?! Are you sure that he's gone?? What about his friends-have you checked if maybe he's staying with one of them? And the po-" "I've checked with his friends, I still have to talk to two of them but so far no one even knew he was leaving, they don't know where he is. And the police-THE POLICE CAN'T DO A F-CKEN THING! My son-" A shuddering breath racked through Henry's body as he said "My son is gone and he blamed you before he left. I need you to tell me the truth here Justin is what Davis is accusing you of true?" A deafening silence covered the room.
Davis smiled as he left "Andy's Hardware Store" he had just gotten himself a part time job and couldn't wait to start exploring the town some more. Davis had ended up renting the pool house of an elderly couple Mr and Mrs Jameson, or rather Judy and Preston as they had asked him to call them. He had unpacked the little that he had brought with him the day he had arrived and set about exploring the small town of Rook. Just a short 45 minute drive from the bus station and a town he finally breathe in. Davis looked down at his phone and checked the time, it was 13h00 there was still plenty of time for him to get to the river, he had chosen the town specifically for its river as he had always felt a sense of calmness go through him when he was around large bodies of water. Walking along the path to the river he went over the messages his dad sent him, it had gone from stern anger to worry, back to anger and the last he had checked his father had resorted to guilt tripping to try and get him to come back home. With a heavy sigh Davis sat along the embankment of the river with his arms folded over his knees as he watched the river and the current running through it. People were like rivers to him, they had a "current" or a path that they were following and in his experience hardly anything could change it, he could see it everywhere he went. In his parents, with his dad playing the role of the stern but loving father to everyone of his kids but him, and his mom in her naivety, with Peter in the way that he was content to live the ordinary life of being a lacrosse player and eventually a teacher-married to Cindy and later on having 2.5 kids running around. And Justin.... A man who only knew hurt and abuse until he began to do the same to others, doomed to repeat his father's mistakes until he was stopped.
Everyone had a path but him it seemed, he was caught in the current of everyone else-yet to discover his own and doomed to be pulled in a million different directions from the currents of everyone else until he discovered his own. He had tried it everyone else's way, he had been the good son, the good brother, the good friend and where had it gotten him?! Where had it lead him?! It had lead him to Justin, it had lead him to more pain and indifference and carelessness by following everyone else's current. Davis' gaze was on the river but it was clear that his mind was in another place, a dozen emotions passing over his face before he closed his eyes and sighed while leaning his head on his arms unaware of the girl who had been watching him for the last five minutes. Erin's breath caught as she saw a pained look cross his face before Davis put his head down and she decided he needed some cheering up, so picking up a stone she walked closer to Davis until she was standing directly to his left and skipped it across the river.
