Chapter 17: Hospital wing, The House Cup, reports and going home

In the Hospital wing – Harry's point of view

Authors note: Yep, I'm starting off with Harry's point of view this time, enjoy.

I woke up to bare white walls and crisp white sheets on the beds. I realise I'm in the hospital wing, I quickly sat up and glance around after putting my glasses on. I notice I'm covered in bandages on my hands and head slightly. At the foot of my bed is tons of candy, to my left a curtain blocks my view of the next bed and I realise Dumbledore is sitting on the bed that was on my right.

Upon seeing Dumbledore there I panicked "Sir, is Hermione and Ron all right?" I questioned. "They are both just fine, Lizzie's tea worked wonders on Ron until he got to the hospital wing" reassured Dumbledore. "Well, her Mum does work as a healer of sorts" I commented before asking tentatively "and Lizzie"? "Still unconscious I'm afraid but Madam Pomphrey assures me that she will be up at any moment and make a full recovery. Her family is quite worried about her actually, seeing as what happened between you three in the dungeons was a complete secret so naturally the whole school knows. Now rest dear boy otherwise Madam Pomphrey will throw me out" soothes Dumbledore, making me lean back into the pillows.

"Sir there are two, well three, wait no four things I'm also wondering about" I corrected myself trying to put my thoughts into words. "Oh yes, what are they dear boy" Dumbledore questioned with a knowing glint in his blue eyes behind his half-moon spectacles. "Well first off, what happened to the stone and how did I get it" I began. "The stone has been destroyed, my friend Nicolas and I had a little chat. In terms of how you got the stone, I would say that was one of my ingenious ideas. You see a person could only find the stone, if they don't want to use it" explained Dumbledore. "But Nicolas Flamel, he'll die won't he" I questioned again. "Oh so you know about Nicolas, you did do things correctly. How did you find out" questioned Dumbledore happily. "Lizzie and Hermione found the information sir" I answered. "Well, to answer your sub question, yes he will die but he has enough elixir to set his affairs in order. To those young, death seems unkind and horribly, while to someone as old as Nicolas or I death is a door way to the next great adventure. Remember Harry don't pity the dead, pity the living".

There was a moment pause as I tried to digest this information before I continued "Sir, how come Voldemort and Quirrell couldn't touch me". "Ah Harry, this one I'm not one hundred percent sure myself but my theory is that when your mother put herself between you and Voldemort she left a mark" Dumbledore began. At this I instinctively reached up a hand to touch my scar before Dumbledore stopped me "no Harry, this mark is not visible, it lies in your veins beneath your skin. One that neither Voldemort nor Quirrell could understand or appreciate filled with greed and desire". "What sort of mark professor" I prompted in confusion. "Love Harry, Love. A very old form of magic most have forgotten it" answered Dumbledore.

"On the subject of Voldemort, please be truthful with me sir. Do you know why he came after me ten years ago" I questioned tentatively. This question had been bugging me since Hagrid introduced me to the wizarding world. "Ah Harry, your question is a most difficult one to answer, one that I'm afraid I can't answer right now as everything has a time and place, this isn't one of them. I will tell you when you are older I promise" assured Dumbledore. I didn't really like his cryptic answers and dancing around the point but I let it go for now. "What happened to Quirrell in the end and can Voldemort come back even with the stone destroyed" I questioned anxiously. "I'm afraid so dear boy, there are many ways he can come back but he is gone for now so rest. In terms of Quirrell he's dead, Voldemort left him to die and is almost as ruthless to his followers as to his enemies" answered Dumbledore calmly.
