Chapter 6: First Week of classes

Third person point of view
Both Hermione and Lizzie were the first one's up in their dormitory.  "Good morning Hermione" greeted Lizzie as she arose from bed to grab her uniform before heading to the dormitories adjacent bathroom.  "Good morning to you too" greeted Hermione back starting to organise her things while Lizzie finishes in the bathroom.  After ten minutes they switched without waking the other girls.  "You know I thought it would be just me who was an early riser" Hermione commented as the girls left the dormitory.  Lizzie smiled at that before explaining "it was kind of a game between my siblings and I at home.  My Mum is always the first one up since she usually makes the breakfast for the B&B guests.".  "Oh fair enough. How many siblings do you have" enquired Hermione as they climbed out of the portrait hole.  "There is four of us.  My oldest sibling is Brandon.  He's interstate most of the time at college, he's studying music there.  However, when he's home he is lots of fun and protective too.  The second oldest is Lorrie she is also away for college a lot but is studying journalism.  Then there's Grace who is a year older than I am and she's still in school" explained Lizzie as they make their way downstairs.  "So I guess not as big as Ron's family then?" enquired Hermione.  "Nope.  What about you any siblings?  What do your parents do?" enquired Lizzie.  "I have no siblings unfortunately but my parents work as dentists" explained Hermione.

As they journeyed to the Great Hall, the two girls talked about their families and school lives.  It was when they sat down at the Gryffindor table that Lizzie began worrying about the boys "Do you think the boys will find their way ok?  I mean even I struggled keeping track of where we were going last night due to the darkness and being so tired" commented Lizzie thoughtfully spooning some porridge into her bowl. "I am sure they will be fine.  Besides it's their fault for sleeping in too long and not paying enough attention" said Hermione brusquely before continuing on a lighter note "Oh look Professor McGonagal is beginning to hand out timetables.  I wonder what we have first".  Lizzie nodded in agreement excitedly.  Once Professor McGonagal had passed the two girls their time tables, they compared them.  "Look we have the same classes" said Lizzie excitedly taking a sip of her morning chai tea.  "Yeah, come on.  Let's go get our books.  We have Transfiguration and Charms today both double periods" said Hermione rising from her seat.  "All right, let me just pour some chai tea into a plastic take away cup.  I always study better when I have tea with it" said Lizzie quickly doing just that.  Lizzie's first year timetable read:

When it reached 9:00 am Professor McGonagal came marching up behind them.  The two girls were waiting quietly for Professor McGonagal to come and unlock the door.  "Good morning Professor McGonagal" greeted Lizzie when she looked up upon her approach.  "Good morning Miss Russell.  How are you and Miss Granger doing today" responded Professor McGonagal.  "Good thanks Professor" both girls chorused rising from their seats to follow Professor McGonagal into the classroom.  As they made their way to the front both girls took seats next to each other at the front row withdrawing their textbooks, parchments, quills and wands.  "What are we doing today Professor McGonagal?" enquired Lizzie curiously which also peaked Hermione's interest as other students were beginning to trickle in from breakfast.  "Well, you will be taking notes from the first chapter of the textbook and I will give you some rules and tips about transfiguration.  In the second half I may let you attempt to transfigure a match into a needle.  Don't stress about it now though, I will explain to the whole class once the bell goes" said Professor McGonagal reassuringly.  The lesson went pretty smoothly in Lizzie's opinion, however, she did feel sorry for Ron and Harry who arrived ten minutes late earning a shake of the head from Hermione.  They didn't know Professor McGonagal was the Tabby cat sitting on the desk watching the class work. On the plus side both Lizzie and Hermione earned ten points each for managing to transfigure their matches successfully by the end of class.  Professor McGonagal told the class to make a summary of where they think they went wrong or could improve for homework in the hopes that in next lesson they will exceed.  However, Hermione and Lizzie were told to just read ahead and take notes if they wished.
