Johns vision was blurry at best and his chest and head were in agonizing pain as he was being carried through what seemed to be a building, there were cries of pain and weeping, however he couldn't see the source of the noises. He looked around trying to push through the pain and saw someone holding his hand and walking next to him, he didn't get look at who it was before his vision faded and the last thing he heard was a gasp of a woman.
John opened his eyes and breathed deeply before wincing and closing his eyes. His breathing was labored and his chest hurt, however that pales in comparison compared to the burning light that blinded his first view of the world in a while. Opening his eyes again and blinking away the pain he looked around him seeing he was in a hospital room. The endless beeping drew his attention away from the room and at the clearly complicated and highly advanced machine. It was something he has never seen before, while he has seen what the Enclave had and this was far more advanced. While examining the machine he made out voices on the other side of the door quietly whispering to each other this gained his attention, he couldn't make out what they were saying but their were two voices. One male and one female, while he listened the door opened to reveal the general and the white haired woman named winter. Their outfits were spotless and they had frowns on their faces, winter and ironwood sat down next to him in some comfy looking chairs and winter leaned forward looking him in the eyes "multiple broken ribs, a punctured left lung and bit of bruises to count, how the hell did you survive without aura all this time?". Now John wasn't in a right state of mind to answer but he did and it wasn't a good one "w-what?" If looks could kill them winter would of massacred him a hundred times, ironwood just laughed quietly to himself before he finally spoke. "Listen, you need to understand that due to your lack of aura you are gonna be bed ridden for a few weeks" he looked john up and down before looking back towards the door to the room "along with that you may also be yelled at by Jade, you worried her sick with that reckless stunt"
John grimaced in pain and looked back towards the door they entered from and he could just barely make any sense of the situation, "D-Did we win?". Ironwood once again laughed as he stood up and spread out his arms almost hitting winter in the face "look around you John, we won..mostly" John thought on that for a minute as he stared at the general "M-Mostly?". The general stared at him for a moment, clearly in thought before he turned away and looked back at a still sitting winter who was watching them patiently. "Let's go winter, let's give him and jade a moment" John couldn't help the small smile when he thought about jade, happy she made it through the whole ordeal. Jade walked through the door before him and Ironwood closed the door giving them some privacy, Jade stood in front of the bed as John examined her. white armor dirty with blood, mud and soot, Her helmet covered which covered most of her face also covered in dirt and soot, her mouth being one of the exposed part of her were very much dirty as well. John broke the silence "hey Jade, did you miss me?" The comment was meant as a joke and he had a small smile on his face but she didn't laugh. She stood quietly taking small breathes as she fumbled with the rifle strapped around her chest.
Tears started to flow from under her helmet, her tears hit the floor beneath her as she slowly took her rifle and set it against the bed and undid her helmet allowing him to see the rest of her face, despite the helmet covering most of her face it was almost as dirty as the lower portion of her face. "Jade, what's wrong?" Her eyes which were closed opened up and when she looked at him he felt nothing but pain in his heart. Her eyes were red and it wasn't just from crying, she looked exhausted and absolutely done with her life. He had seen this look on many civilians and newer Enclave and brotherhood soldiers in the past, War wasn't pretty and he knew it because he always lived it. His concern for her only grew when she started to talk "I-I have been fighting for literally days on end to defend the city and this hospital, I'm running off of at least four hours of sleep and I-I don't have anyone else to talk to about this right now!" Her voice slowly grew in volume as did the tears John didn't know what to say to her, he felt terrible and guilty that he wasn't there to help her. "H-Hey it's gonna be okay.." His attempt at trying to placate or calm her was met with a harsh glare which made him which made him stumble his words and he fell silent not knowing what to tell her. "D-Do you have any idea how horrible it was to be the first person to get to you and pull you out from under that Ursa Major?" He stayed silent not wanting to say anything that might upset her further. "You were pouring blood from your mouth, your ribs were all over your chest cavity and don't get me started on your damn bruises, I had to personally take off your armor just to attend to your wounds, I mean I've never had to do physical medical like that but I hate that it was on you."
The guilt John felt was almost palpable, the way she stared into his eyes, the way she fiddled with her dirtied armor and she clearly wasn't mentally ready for the battle she had to fight. He opened his arms up for her because it felt like that was all he was able to do and he watched as she slowly made her way to him and slowly and carefully leaned against him crying into his hospital gown, it hurt him horribly to be hugged like this but it hurt him more to see her in such a horrid state. In his mind it was worth every moment of pain just to make Jade feel a bit better about her life. "I know what it's like Jade, I've been there too much and I know you have seen my scars, I don't have..aura and I never really wanted it" he could feel the wet gown against him as he kept talking to her stroking her hair gently "I've fought my fair share of battles and I've had to suffer through many things to make it as far as I did, but I promise you that I'll be right here if you need help and if you need advice or assistance trying to understand something about conflict, I can help" John hoped that she wouldn't question his knowledge of the matter but her response never came, she was quiet and John sat there for a few minutes letting her relax and when he finally looked down he could instantly tell she was asleep. He could feel the pain slowly growing but he kept his mouth shut as he left her to sleep the horror away.
