It was freezing out and it was only October. Wearing a long leather black jacket, she walked home with her head up. It's like she has never seen in front of her all day. Which technically she hasn't. The ground is so much better than the dumb people surrounding her. Taking in the trees and the sky, she walked on the hidden path she goes through to get home. Not many people go down it so it's nicer. She was glad. Finally, there was no one around to bother her or stare at her. She didn't have to watch people almost torture stars to death. They were so majestic and unbelievably real that it was a mystery why people would hurt them in such ways. They didn't deserve it. They didn't do anything to be like this. Only being used for slaves for the lazy people of her town.

15 years ago, only 2 years after Riley was born, stars started falling out of the sky with no explanation at all. They were being found in places and stolen to be used. She was told that they were used to help people but as Riley got older, she didn't believe that. They weren't helpers, more like slavery. They were beaten by their owners for the littlest things and put to some of the hardest work. Stars can range from any age. She has seen some six-year old's having to do worse than someone who is almost an adult. They can't do anything about it. It's like humans have more power. If a star does anything to stop working, then right away they could be killed. Disobeying orders comes in bad costs. They weren't supposed to be used as toys. Before the stars came to earth, they went years without them, and mankind has been fine. Even now they have better resources, but they still rely on stars to do almost everything for them.

Riley stays quiet so she can listen closely to the birds. Her shoulder length light brown hair sways in the wind as she also listens to the small sounding steps of her heels. She takes a deep breath and jumps over a log. Not walking too quickly. She must enjoy the moment. These woods were her favourite place to be. No voices or souls are usually around. You get the one kid who kicks their ball or something in here from time to time. But besides that, it's pretty clear. Sometimes she will stay in the forest for hours and won't come back home till sundown.

For once, Riley smiles at the peacefulness. Her head turns to her left and a flock of birds have just left the tree. She moves her head with them as they go out of view. When she turns her head back, she is out of the forest and back on the road. Still some way to go. She sighs and keeps moving, not wanting to at all. Her head is now down. She can't stand the look of some things but sadly she can still hear it.

The sound of whining is heard a bit far behind her, but she doesn't even bother to look. It's a star she thinks. Now the sound of a clap and right after that something has fallen on the ground. Everything in Riley's body tightens but she keeps walking trying not to think about it. She wants to close her eyes and push away everything. Give her room. As she keeps walking, she is thinking of something else, but behind her there is now screaming which takes her away from her thoughts. The sound is from what she is guessing is the master of the star. "You!" He starts "you think everything is about you! It's pitiful!" He smacks her in the head once more, but the star doesn't whine. "I told you! I fucking told you not touch that and what do you do!" He grabs her hand and tugs on her harshly, pulling her up. She makes small whines in pain as she stumbles getting up. The star almost falls in the process. "Why can't you just listen for once! Everything is not about you!" He turned and huffs "I suggest you will clean up the mess you made and stay out of my sight for a while" the star nods and holds back her tears. The man goes in and the star is left outside to cry and be stared at.

Riley shivers from it but walks faster. She can't stand it and wants to get home. She turns around a sharp corner quickly but slams against something. Before she can see what it was, she is being almost yelled at "Riley! I didn't think I'd see you anywhere here. Who knew that you actually fucking show your face around." Riley rubs her arms and tries to stand up but gets pushed back down. "I wasn't done talking you little bitch."
