What was it that brought them together, to be united in this perfect love?

Y/N must have been delivered to him by fate. Park Seonghwa had uncharacteristically found himself at death's door when Y/N, in a moment of great courage, saved him. From then on, they were inseparable. They shared every part of their life with each other. That was how it was to this very day.

Yes. She often reflected upon that day with fondness. It was a day that had changed her life, after all.

Y/N, a guileless girl rapidly approaching womanhood, stood alone on the beach, gazing over the ocean-colored water with her immaculate brunet spheres. Her ebon hair rustled lightly in the ocean breeze. She smiled to herself with anticipation, resting her cheek against one hand as she hummed "My Heart Will Go On" to herself. She wore a sunny shirt that left her sorrel arms bare and obsidian shorts that looked comfortable and easy to wear. Her charcoal strands brushed against her earlobes, complementing her innocent russet visage. An elaborate tattoo snaked its way around her visible skin. For a moment, she absorbed herself in these thoughts, of her, and Park Seonghwa.

-----

"Y/N," Park Seonghwa said simply with an admiring look-over and a beaming grin. His amber orbs complimented his raven mane, brushing against his ears, belying his passionate heart. He was dressed in his usual everyday clothes. He had a toned but slender body covered with milky, tinted with sepia, skin. An elaborate tattoo snaked its way around his visible skin. A prominent scar stood out on his roseate-flushed light-colored skin. A symbol marked his skin. As Y/N drew nearer, she caught a note of his familiar perfume: sandalwood, earthy and spicy. She smiled to herself. It always reminded her of the time they shared.

"Oh, Hwa! You came!" Y/N said breathlessly, reaching out to take him into an embrace. With that, they began to walk along the beach.

The air was salty and warm, the sun sparkling bright and the waves foam-crested and ocean-colored, and yet Y/N could not let herself be happy. She wanted to reach for Park Seonghwa's steady hand, always a comfort, but it was her sadness -- who was she to burden Park Seonghwa with that? Although she tried to stop them, her lips trembled, gemstone orbs filling with unshed tears.

But she couldn't hide from Park Seonghwa. He took her by the hand and drew her toward himself, and when she looked up into his face he had a smile warmer than the sun.

"What's wrong?" he asked. "You look so sad!"

She tried to smile, to show him that she was happy there, with him, but her bloom-colored lips would not obey her.

-----

"I'm sorry," she lamented softly, ducking her head. His fingers, firm but gentle, tipped her chin up.

"Don't be!" he ejected worriedly, warm globes searching out her own. "I don't ever want you to be sad! I know, I'll tell you a joke! A dragon rider, a mage, and a bard all walk into this bar..."

"Please," Y/N breathed. She shook her head violently, sending her hair whipping back in forth in the sea breeze. "No jokes. I can't take it. You're so kind to me and so good and I ... and I..." She turned away as the tears came anew, spilling like pearls over her cheeks. Park Seonghwa was quiet for a moment. His arms circled around her and she let herself lean back against his strong, lean chest. She always felt safest when she was with him.

"I don't want there to be anything between us," Park Seonghwa said softly. "I love you, Y/N."

"Oh, Hwa," she sighed adoringly. She turned in his arms and caught his face between her delicate hands. For a long moment, all they did was gaze into each other's eyes, each filled to the brim with emotions unspoken, deeper than the ocean all around them.

-----

As they walked, they came across a part of the sea that looked darker than the rest.

"What's that?" Y/N asked.

"The locals say the lair of a sea monster lies in that ravine," Park Seonghwa said. Just as he finished talking, a roar pierced the air. "Watch out!"

The ocean-colored waves swelled and surged, and Park Seonghwa ran up the sea shore with Y/N's hand in his. From the frothing fair foam emerged the head of a giant eel, which let out a screech that rent the sky. It bared its glinting sharp canines at them.

"It looks hungry," she remarked with a hint of trepidation.

"It's not going to eat us!" Park Seonghwa said firmly. Ever prepared, he whipped out his weapon. "Go! I'll protect you. I'll make sure of it!"

-----

"Wait! Park Seonghwa! I want to help!" Y/N, too, was prepared.

"Y/N..." he started to say, but there was no time to argue -- the eel lunged for him, and he jumped away, the eel's teeth burying itself in the sand. Then they launched a counter-strike: Park Seonghwa struck a blow first, along the beast's back, and then Y/N second, along the eel's exposed underside. The monster roared in outrage before slipping back into the sea.

Panting for breath, Park Seonghwa asked, "Are you hurt?"

Y/N shook her head. "I'm fine."

"That was more trouble than I bargained for." He offered her his hand. "Stick tight. You never know what else might spring out of the sea."

Y/N held onto his hand as the radiant sunset sunset began to fill the sky.

-----

"Look... it's the sunset."

Y/N lifted her head at Park Seonghwa's words to behold the dying sun's sunset radiance. "How beautiful."

After a moment of silence, he said quietly and seriously, "It's destiny, isn't it. Us, together."

She clasped his firm hand and murmured in response, "A love this true must be fated to be."

He brought their clasped hands to his lips. "As long as the world goes on, as long as time flows... we will be together."

Y/N sighed with contentment and brought him closer. She gazed at the beautiful honey-colored rays of the falling sun, thinking about everything that had transpired on this day and all that would pass between them.

"I love you, Park Seonghwa."

"I love you too, Y/N."

Their lips met, and ebon strands met inky ones, aflame in the dying light. The sand was their witness and the rumbling ocean their approving audience, and Park Seonghwa, her eternally faithful lover. Y/N thought to herself that nothing could be more perfect in the world.
