Y/N, a rebellious girl rapidly approaching womanhood, stood alone on the beach, gazing over the cerulean water with her burning cinerescent spheres. Her cement-colored hair danced lightly in the ocean breeze. She tried to keep still despite her impatient excitement as she adjusted her charcoal glasses.

She wore a thin, summer hoodie that left her fair, tinted with sorrel, arms bare and a pair of sapphire jeans that showed off the shape of her body. Her hair was woven into a cement-colored braid, complementing her spirited plush-flushed ivory visage.

Her thoughts wandered to her days in Song Mingi's company. It all started when she found herself in mortal danger. She truly feared that her life would end that day, but Song Mingi was her unexpected savior. From then on, they were inseparable. They shared every part of their life with each other. That was how it was to this very day.

-----

Y/N's ashen globes spotted Song Mingi further down on the beach, closer to the roaring sea. His lovely French vermillion hair was attractive as ever. His crystals were turned toward the ocean, hidden from Y/N's sight, but she knew and loved their passionate swarthy hue. He was dressed in his usual everyday clothes. He had a toned but slender body covered with healthily color-touched light-colored skin. An elaborate tattoo snaked its way around his visible skin. As Y/N drew nearer, she caught a note of his familiar scent, a mixture of earthiness and sourness that was uniquely his. She smiled to herself. It always reminded her of the time they shared. "Minki," she called, walking towards him.

He glanced back and a rebellious smile flashed across his face. "Hey. Baby."

Y/N smirked and flicked a bit of hair over her shoulder. "Good to see you. C'mon." They began their leisurely walk along the ocean's edge.

"So, Minki," Y/N began.

"So, Baby," he mirrored.

"How's that project going? You know the one."

Yes, they both knew the one. Song Mingi frowned a bit and muttered, "Oh, screw you." At Y/N's delighted sniggering, he added, "Yeah, let's see you do better."

"Relax. You can be the hobbyist. Me..." Her voice trailed off.

"You?" Song Mingi prodded, before following Y/N's gaze. In the distance, they could see the outline of a building that brought back memories for both of them.

-----

"... That place." He unconsciously drew closer to Y/N, who wrapped her arm around him.

"Funny, seeing it like this," she murmured.

"Funny..." he echoed. "How long has it been? Do you remember?"

"Not that long. It'll never be long enough." She gave Song Mingi a thoughtful squeeze before releasing him. "But, look, Song Mingi. We're alive. We've survived."

"I know that!" Song Mingi interjected. "You don't have to treat me like a kid."

"Really? With the way you clung onto me you could've fooled me."

"Clung? You wish I would cling to you," he sniffed. "Come on, meathead." He swiftly set off walking down the beach, and Y/N, knowingly rolling her eyes, followed.

-----

After a few moments, they found themselves walking down the beach again. It seemed to Y/N that something had been bothering Song Mingi for the last few hours -- or maybe longer than that. His energetic brunet windows to his soul were cast down and away, focused upon nothing in particular.

It really hurt her inside to see him like that. She reached for him, tucked a stray fiery strand behind his ear, and traced a finger across his jawline. "What's wrong, Song Mingi?"

"Y/N... it's, just..."

Y/N cupped his face in her hands, brushing her lips against his forehead. "You can tell me."

He took a deep breath and gazed into her cinereal pools with a look full of audacious sadness, whispering, "It's... sometimes I wonder where my parents are. My mother, my father... they must be somewhere.... If they're still alive. Given how things have been, I... -- I don't even know what it is I want. I just wonder... what would it be like? I just wonder, and it hurts, Y/N."

-----

Y/N listened attentively, her eyebrows furrowing at each of Song Mingi's recounted sorrows. At last, when he finished, a moment of silence passed between them.

He looked so melancholy and insecure. She brought him closer in reassurance, only wanting to hold him until the hurt subsided, murmuring, "Song Mingi... that's awful. It wish that weren't how it is. I wish I could say more. Song Mingi...." Song Mingi's eyes began to redden, and he abruptly pulled her into a fierce embrace. Her windows to her soul widened at first, but then she too felt overwhelmed by emotion and succumbed to the warmth of his touch.

"You," Song Mingi whispered, his breath hot on her ear. "As long as you're here, I'll be all right." They held each other as tears trickled down cheeks and dripped onto the shifting sands to be carried away into the sea. With time and soothing embraces, their pain dissipated into a mist swept out by the ocean breeze and into the setting sun.

They basked in each other's quiet companionship for a few moments.

-----

"The sunset is so beautiful, isn't it?"

Y/N lifted her head at Song Mingi's words to behold the dying sun's tangerine radiance. "It's nice."

After a moment of silence, he asked, "Do you think we'll be together forever?"

"I think we'll be forever," Y/N murmured in response.

"I would like that, let's be together forever, then." Song Mingi clutched her hand and sidled closer.

Y/N sighed with contentment and brought him closer. She gazed at the beautiful aureate rays of the falling sun, thinking about everything that had transpired on this day and all that would pass between them.

"You'll hurt your eyes doing that," Song Mingi added.

"Oh never mind my eyes," Y/N sighed, kissing Song Mingi to shut him up. When they parted, she murmured, "I love you, Song Mingi."

"I love you too, Y/N."

Their lips met, and cement-colored strands met carrot-colored ones, aflame in the dying light. The sand was their witness and the rumbling ocean their approving audience, and Song Mingi, her eternally faithful lover. Y/N thought to herself that nothing could be more perfect in the world.
