Rosalie slowly opened her eyes, as she looked around her, immediately recognizing the familiar guest room in Clary's house. Kicking the covers off of herself, she stood up, only to feel a sharp pain in her stomach and back. She slowly lifted up her shirt, and noticed the cuts and bruises littering her skin. That's when it all came rushing back to her. The fight that had led Rose and her two best friends to go to Pandemonium last night. She also noticed that she was still in her clothes from the night club, and walked out of the bedroom and into the kitchen. Grabbing an apple out of the fridge, she migrated to where she heard voices. The living room, where Clary was currently having an argument with her mom. Luke was also in the room, looking extremely uncomfortable, and Rose contemplated turning around and going back to bed. That was before all three people realized she was there. Before she could leave, Jocelyn and Luke had already come up to her.

"Rosie! I'm so glad you're okay," Jocelyn said, giving the said girl a tight hug. "I was so scared when you wouldn't wake up.''

"Were you drinking? How much sleep have you been getting?" Luke asked. Rose barely had any time to breathe before he too gave her a tight hug.

"Thank you. No, and not much." Rose said in acknowledgement to the people before her. Rose had always thought of Jocelyn and Luke as her family. They always seemed to care more about her well-being than her actual parents. Well, Rose wouldn't know because she'd doesn't remember her actual parents all that well. Since she was seven, maybe even before that, she had been living with a foster family. It's unusual that a child stays with the same foster family, but they adopted her when she was eight. She had taken to calling her foster parents mom and dad, at least in her younger years. Nowadays, she rarely talks to them and when she does, almost always calls them by their first names. .A couple months after Rose was adopted, she met Clary and Simon, and they became best friends. Rose had never seen the need to tell them she was adopted.

It seemed Rose had interrupted a fight between Jocelyn and Clary, but she had done nothing to dispel it because as soon as Jocelyn was done worrying about Rose she turned right back to Clary. Rosalie deemed this fight none of her business and went back to eating her apple, completely ignoring the whole thing. That was before Clary went up to Rose and dragged her out of the apartment. Apparently at some point Simon had turned up and Luke had left. Rosalie wondered what the fight was about, but she knew if Clary wanted to talk about it she would.

So, apparently Jocelyn is making Clary go on a vacation with her and Luke for the rest of the summer. Clary would be missing her Tisch classes, art group gatherings, and plans with Simon and Rose. Rose was not okay with this. Simon was trying to be all understanding about it, but Rose was pissed. Clary was one of her best friends and not being able to see her for two weeks could quite possibly kill her. Okay, that may be an over exaggeration and Rose might be a little codependent on Simon and Clary, but who cares? Some people might care, but that's not the point. The point is the only girl Rose can talk to and the only person who Rose tells everything (well almost everything) too, will be gone, out in the middle of nowhere. So Rose, being the sensible idiot she is, decides to ignore the entire conversation between Clary and Simon, put in some earbuds to listen to music, and started writing in her journal. She wrote about how she was feeling. She wrote about everything that happened last night, which she is trying to convince herself was just a bad dream. Clary hadn't brought it up yet, so maybe Rose's overactive imagination had cooked up the entire thing. There was no one named Jace, Isabelle or Alec (okay there probably was but the people she thought she met last night weren't real) and there is no such thing as demons. Then Rose started doodling in the margins of her notebook. She wasn't as good an artist as Clary, but she was still decently good. She just started mindlessly doodling, until she realized the little symbol she had started to sketch was one of those weird tattoos Alec, Isabelle, and Jace had adorned. Rose stopped doodling and actually looked at what she was drawing. She saw four pairs of eyes, a whip, a knife, and more of those weird tattoos. Rosalie quickly shut her notebook before anyone could see what she was drawing. She needed a distraction, and fast. Like really fast. At that moment, Clary shook Rose's shoulder and said girl looked up.

"We're going to Eric's poetry reading, if you want to join." There you have it folks. A grade A distraction by none other than Simon's friend and band mate, Eric. Now, lets get something straight, Rose would never go to these stupid poetry readings. She usually just skipped out and promised to meet up with Clary and Simon later. It's not like she hated the guy, it's just that Eric could not write poetry, let alone read it, and seriously. How do you mess up reading poetry? Put a little emotion and emphasis on the words and you'll be good to go, but no. Eric, no offense, sucked at poetry. But Rose needed a distraction, so she nodded, got up, and followed her two best friends to Java Jones, something that shocked both Clary and Simon.

a/n: sorry this was a really short chapter, shorter than usual, it was just a good place for it to cut off. sorry
