Eight
'Reason is the slave of passion.'
After they'd finished their dinner, it was time to pay the bill. It was also time for John to do his thing when they leave. They'd split the bill: Harry payed for his and Delilah's meals and John payed for his and Roisin's.
They were all about to leave when John said to go ahead and go to the car, he had to use the jacks. They went on and he went to look for that server.
When he saw him at a table, on his phone with a soda, John figured he must be on his break which was perfect. John made his way and sat in front of him. Lukas looked up from his phone and smiled.
'Did you need something, sir,' he asked and John was still furious about his flirting earlier.
'I didn't really appreciate you flirting with my girlfriend.'
'Oh, so, she's with a professor now? Didn't realise that was her type. She's in one of my philosophy classes and I thought she was just with friends. Rumour has it she doesn't date, ever, so I figured it was some harmless flirting. But now, you just broke the bank.' Lukas chuckled and John sighed.
'What do you want?'
'What do I want? You're the one who came over here telling me she's your girlfriend and all you had to do was let the flirting go. But now I know, she's dating a teacher. I can see why...maybe she thinks college boys are too immature...or maybe, she wants good grades.' He smiled evilly. 'I think you should break up with her.' Then, John laughed.
'And why should I do that?' Lukas's face turned to concern.
'Because...what if she has to take a class that's required for her in the future and then, she finds out the only one who teaches it is you?'
'That's unlike—'
'Or I just might tip the dean. He loves drama.' His concerned smile replaced with evil one again.
'Well, she's not my student. So, it doesn't matter.'
'Yeah, but the dean will just make the same argument I made. You need to break up with her. Wait till she graduates, then you can fuck her all you—' John punched him in the face and walked out. He got in the car and buckled his seatbelt as Delilah pulled out and left the parking lot. Roisin looked at him with concern and then, looked at his knuckles.
'What happened, John? I know that wasn't a piss.' She knew something went on as he was tense during Lukas's flirting. Lukas was another guy who tried to go on date with her, but she shot him down. These guys were nice, but they weren't of her interest. Besides, she'd heard that Lukas was a serial cheater.
'I took care of something,' John muttered. Delilah turned on the radio, which she did after every time she ate. So, it was awkward between John and Roisin all the way back to the flat. When they got back, they all entered the flat. John followed Roisin to her room while Harry left so Delilah could start on her essay for one of her classes.
Roisin sat on her bed and John closed the door behind them. He leaned against the door and looked at her. He knew she was upset, but he had to take care of that damn server. Unfortunately, that damn server was right.
The dean would make that argument and John's intention after graduating with a doctorate was to teach at the same university, but if he had to teach a class she had to take, what will they do? But who knows if their relationship will even last that long? He wanted to focus on the now and her.
'What did you do, John? Because your knuckles are bruised and you got into the car pissed.' She was stern, but not that stern when they first met.
'I talked to the server and told him I didn't appreciate him flirting with my girlfriend,' John said as he looked at the sliding door to her closet. She gasped.
