She took in a deep breath as the soles of her shoes made contact with the concrete ground. She stretched out her arms, legs, and back after the long bus ride and brought herself to a jog so she could catch up with her best friend, Aiuchi Sakura.

L/N couldn't tell if the bubbling inside her stomach was nerves or excitement; she hadn't felt either in such a long time. She would be lying if she said she expected her coach to agree to her proposition so quickly, or even at all.

"Saku-chan!" She yelled catching the attention of the shy libero, who immediately stopped walking.

"Hi, L/N-san." She muttered quietly when the energetic setter caught up to her.

"Saku-chan, I told you to call me F/N!" She replied, a large grin adorning her face.

"Y- Yeah, gomen, F/N."

"Are you excited, Saku-chan?!"

"S- Sure."

"I know I am! I wonder what the boys teams are like. Do you think they're cute?! Oh, I hope they're cute!" The setter rambled on, making the quiet girl beside her shrink into her jacket.

"Not so loud."

The H/C haired girl turned her head towards the turtled libero next to her. "Ah! Gomen, Saku-chan." Her hand found its way to the back of her neck, as she gave her friend a lopsided smile.

"It's okay, L/N-san." Said girl shrunk slightly in defeat, after realizing her friend wasn't going to stick to her first name.

The pair stepped into their temporary dorm room, throwing their bags onto the ground. L/N crouched beside her own bag, and pulled out her volleyball shoes, a simple white shirt, and a pair of black leggings containing 6 or 7 holes. She quickly got changed, along with the rest of her team and tied her hair up into a ponytail.

"Who are we playing against first?" She asked no one in particular.

"Aoba Johsai." Kimura, the tallest middle blocker on the team replied, scanning the sheet in her hands.

"Aoba Johsai..." L/N muttered, searching through the many matches she'd watched the previous night for preparation. A light bulb appeared above her head when she'd found it. "Aoba Johsai, they have lots of attack power and a decent defence. It might be difficult to block their attacks so we need to stay strong with our receives. Unlucky for us they attack with more power and speed than accuracy, so it might be a bit difficult to predict exactly where their spikes are gonna go. Plus, their setter has a mean serve, we need to be on the lookout for that."

"What if we can't get to their spikes in time?" One of the wing spikers, Ikeda asked.

"We'll just need to match their speed, which means you won't be able to rely on me for this game." The entire team was sat down, watching their captain speak as she stood in front of them. "Have a go at predicting where they're gonna go yourself and trust your instincts. Just because you rely on me doesn't mean you won't be strong on your own. You're a good team and good players. Now let's go beat these assholes." She crossed her arms over her chest, a smirk on her face as she finished her small speech.

"Hai!" The team replied, now pumped up.

L/N followed the rest of the team as they all piled into the gymnasium for roll call. Most of the other teams were already there, except one.
