Eventually, we reached an empty island and decided to rest there. I slept nearer to the ocean then the others, Hiccup and Toothless, with Viggo, slept in the small clearing just within the forest. Close enough for me to still see them. I fell asleep quickly.
The next morning, I woke to a terrible surprise. Viggo had Hiccup cornered with several other hunters.
They faced away from me, and Toothless was trapped inside a net, struggling to get free.
I silently went over to Toothless and released him from the net. He murmured to me a thanks, and growled towards Viggo.
"Ah, Stardust, you're awake." Viggo greeted. "I didn't want to bother you, seeing you would have caused trouble. Setting the Night Fury free? He won't attack if Hiccup's life is on the line. How predictable."
"Let. Him. Go." I snarled, taking a step closer.
"I certainly will. But only if you take his place as my prisoner." Viggo countered.
What choice did I have? Hiccup was an important viking. Future chief of Berk and leader of the Riders. I wasn't important, I was a cowardly Queen unable to save her subjects, he deserved to go on free far more than I did.
"Fine. Release him first." I said, standing my ground.
Viggo nodded to his men to step aside. Hiccup immediately rushed over to me. "Stardust! What are you doing? Who knows what the Hunters will do to you?"
I stared down at him, "Nothing they do to me hurts me as long as I know you and the others are safe. Go on living your lives. You have a future, I don't. Go, and tell them I'm sorry."
He hugs me for a moment longer, and walks slowly over to Toothless, who watched, bewildered, as I was pushed forward, and muzzled.
Hiccup. If you can hear this, I'll make it back to you soon. I'll find a way. I promise.
And Hiccup, mounted on Toothless, looked at me one last time, something sparked in his eyes. I hoped it meant he heard me. And he and his Night Fury were gone, flying fast into the horizon, moments later.
I turned back towards Viggo, and was led into a cage. The cage was then rolled down towards a large boat.
They pushed me onto the boat and below the deck. Straight into another cage. I changed into my RainWing form. Wishing that my camoflauge really would make me disappear forever. But being totally gone is nowhere near the same as being invisible to one's eyes.
Everything was silent as the boat began to sway. The Hunters were taking me back to their base, of course. Where they would hurt me and try to force me into a weapon at their disposal.
But Viggo, of course, wasn't finished with his conversation just yet. He exited his quarters on the far side of the hallway of cages, and came straight up to the edge of my own cage.
"Comfortable?" He asks after a moment.
I turn away from him, silent.
"You know, I'd love to know more about you." Viggo continued, pulling up a small stool and sitting.
I stayed silent.
"I'm disappointed that when we first met you and I couldn't see eye to eye on things."
I snapped, thrusting my face as close to his small figure in seconds.
"You're a selfish man, Viggo." I growled at him. "I never did anything to you. Now you expect me to betray the only friends I have left. And for what? To get paid? To strike down your enemies? Just to keep playing the game? On and on and on until there's no one left for you to play with?"
