Chapter 28 : The Death Of Gama Sennin

Hokage Office

"G'morning, Tsunade-baa-chan!" Naruto grinned.

Sai silently closed the door after they had entered.

"...Naruto. Sai. Is anything wrong?" Tsunade asked, putting down her documents. Her voice was tired and low.

Naruto raised a brow at the fatigued Tsunade. This was unsual. She's usually so upbeat and energetic, albeit to get away from mountains of paperwork. The fact that she's obediently reading on the files seemed so unnatural for the Senju descendant.

"Tsunade-baa-chan, you should rest if you're tired!" Naruto said worriedly.

Sai agreed, "Yes. Please take better care of yourself, Hokage-sama."

Obviously Tsunade was not in the mood of dealing with the two. "I'm fine." Tsunade said firmly, although unconvincingly. But her tone made it clear that she was not going to continue this particular conversation.

Naruto pressed his lips together, clearly not believing her blatant lie. Sai was confused at her visible fake answer. Why did she needed to lie?

"...Where is Sasuke? I don't see him with you. Actually, is there anything you two need?" Tsunade repeated her question, breaking the silence.

"O-oh! Sasuke-teme is training with his brother-dattebayo. I wanna ask if Ero-sennin came back! He promised to train me-dattebayo!" Naruto grinned brightly. He was excited, since he hadn't seen his sensei for such a long time.

Sai just smiled. "I'm bored. So I came to accompany Dick- I mean, Naruto here." He corrected his sentence, since the hokage was present.

However, Tsunade's reaction was the exact opposite of Naruto. Her eyes dimmed in sorrow and her mood depleted further. It was so obvious that even, the famous airhead, Naruto noticed it.

"Uh. Tsunade-baa-chan?" An awful feeling was growing inside of Naruto.

The blonde Hokage looked at the Uzumaki heir. Her sad eyes staring into Naruto's bright ones.

"... Naruto...I'm.. I'm sorry.. But, Jiraiya....he died....He was killed by Pain when he was...on a undercover mission...In Ame... I'm so sorry..." She spoke. Her voice cracking in the process.

Naruto felt his heart stopped. His brain shut down. He couldn't even comprehend what he was doing.

"...What?"Naruto whispered, which was extremely unusual for the loud him. His  blue eyes comically wide in disbelief.

"Baa-chan...you're kidding right..? Hey...It's not funny...!" His voice was trembling.

"Hey....Tell me you're lying, Baa-chan!" Naruto who failed to keep his composure, screamed. Pure fear filled his tone.

Tsunade just quietly listened to Naruto's heartbreaking rant. Her own heart in pieces.

She shook her head. "It's true, Naruto. I'm so sorry. It's all true. Your father also had a hard time accepting it." She confirmed.

"No...No...No.." Naruto staggered back, almost falling on his bottom. "It's impossible... Ero-sennin is super powerful-dattebayo... He couldn't have died...He couldn't. He just can't-" He kept on muttering under his breath.
