Girl in a Boy Group?

     It was just another normal day for Jieun, training at SM Entertainment. Well, it was normal until Lee Sooman called her to his office. On the way to the office Jieun obviously thought she was in trouble, but the girl couldn't recall doing anything wrong. Was it because she was late to practice yesterday? Because she ate a hamburger when she was supposed to be dieting? Did Taemin rat her out for having a late night ice cream run? If so, Taemin is so dead.

     Arriving at the door, she placed a soft knock on the glass. A faint come in was heard from the other side. So, Jieun walked in and was met with a smiling CEO. Now she was even more confused, but relaxed seeing his good mood.

     "Sir, you wanted to see me?" She asked politely.

     "Yes I did," he smiled, gesturing for the girl to sit, "please have a seat."

     After she sat down, Sooman wasted no time getting to the point. "Jieun, you're gonna debut in 2016."

     Shocked. That was all Jieun felt in that moment. Is she crazy? Had she heard him correctly? Debuting? Her? 2016?

     After a moment of silence, "Um, thank you so much, but in what group?" Jieun asked. He smiled wider, "Well, it's going to be called NCT U,"

     'NCT U? That doesn't really sound like a girl group name' Jieun thought to herself.

     "and you're going to meet them today, right now." He finished. He stood up and she followed him out of the door and through the maze of hallways that made up the SM building.

     They arrived at one of the many dance practice rooms. Sooman knocked before stepping inside with the Jieun following closely behind, "Hello, I would like to introduce you to the newest member of NCT U," he pulled Jieun from behind him, "Lee Jieun." There was a silence from both the group and from Jieun. The girl was confused.

     "Is this the right group Mr. Lee?" Jieun asked.

     "Yes it is Jieun." He beamed down at her.

     The girl furrowed her eyebrows and looked back at the five boys staring back at her with mirrored expressions. 

     "Well, I'll be going. You guys should get to know each other." And with that Lee Sooman left them to their own devices. The six individuals continued to stare without saying a word. It was very awkward for Jieun. A girl in a boy group? What kind of sick joke is Lee Sooman trying to play right now? Is this even serious? Could he even do this? It was still quiet until one of the boys cleared their throat.

     "Umm, hi. I'm Ten." The boy, apparently named Ten, smiled awkwardly at the girl. She gave a weak smile and wave back, "Jieun," she said, "So, is Ten a nickname?" She asked trying to make conversation. "Well my name is Chittaphon Leechaiyapornkul, but I go by Ten for short." The girl nodded with a smile, catching on to the fact that he is Thai. He also gave off very positive vibes. He spoke up first trying to make the situation less awkward. She felt that he was very considerate for doing so. She likes Ten. 

     After that exchange, another boy spoke, "Uhhh, name is Mark."  He said with a shy smile on his face. Mark was really cute, like a younger brother. Jieun had always wanted a younger sibling, but sadly she was the youngest Lee sibling. This instantly made Jieun give the boy a smile, "Hi Mark," at that the boy gave a shy wave, "Any interesting facts?" She asked? He thought about it and said "Well, I'm from like Canada." The girl nodded and responded in English, "that's really cool." The boy let out a small gasp at the girl speaking English. She smiled at him and looked to the boy beside him. 

     "I'm Jaehyun." He said, short and sweet. She nodded and before she could ask him anything the next boy spoke, "I'm doyoung." He gave her a wide smile which she noticed made him look like a bunny rabbit, 'cute' she thought. For whatever reason Jieun felt comfortable around him yet she didn't even know him, but his aura was so comforting. He felt safe.

     She nodded and they all went silent again. She noticed one of them had yet to introduce himself. They all looked his way. He was stood there arms crossed, eyebrows knitted together like he was ready to explode at any moment. He looked very upset and Jieun did not understand why. Was it something she said? Had she been disrespectful to anyone?

     The girl opened her mouth, ready to apologize for anything she may have done to offend him, but before anything could come out he spoke, "Is this some kind of joke?" he asked. This confused the girl even more "Wha-" he cut her off again. "You think you can just waltz in here and debut in a boy group?" 

     "Well, I'm sorry that upsets you but I didn't ask to be here either. Sooman told me I was debuting and that I would meet you all today, he never mentioned anything to me about if you were male or female." She said to him and he scoffed. 

     "Listen little girl, if you make the tiniest mistake and mess up our debut, I'll be the first one in Sooman's office asking for your removal," he said "do you understand?" She stared at him in shock before lowering her head and nodding, and he left the practice room, slamming the door.

     Jieun feels like she is right back in the practice room at YG Entertainment. Right at the bottom of the group, useless to anyone. So this kid thinks just because Jieun is a gril she'll mess everything up for them? Is this how it will be in SM? Jieun never asked for any of this, she worked hard to get where she is right now. And look at her now head lowered eyes filling with tear. But no, she will not cry and she will not let this boy's words get the best of her. She will prove to him and everyone else why Sooman chose her to debut in NCT U.

     "Hey, don't worry about Taeyong. He's just trying to look out for the group in his own weird way, we've all trained together for so long, he just doesn't want to be set back when we're so close." Jaehyun told her. The girl lifted her head and gave Jaehyun a smile, "That's okay I understand, but I'm far from a set back." And with that the girl left the practice room and headed for her dorm.
