Valencia stared at the man, she sat on her coffee table to be level with him.

"I have something I need to do. We can work this out when I'm finished."

"Work this out?" Valencia sneered. "What do you need to do? Run a couple errands and bolt so you never have to see me again?" Her voice that'd been stern with her false confidence was now crumbling under his stare.

Valencia bit her lip to hold it together. When she was raised by her human father and step mother, her moms diaries about mates had filled her head with hope.

She thought finding a mate would give her a person. Someone that would stay. Obviously not.

She huffed at his silence, no she wouldn't let him walk out like that. She had to try for the both of them.

"I'm looking for a man, Victor. He wants my family dead. And I've been tracking him for two years, no offense but I'm not about to give up now."

Valencia deflated, "I just met you. I wouldn't expect you to give anything up. I'm not in the way of anything Malakai."

Malakai stood up slowly, she saw he was going towards the door.

Valencia scowled and moved to block him.

"You're hurt," she glared up at him.

"I'll be fine, you don't have any healing potions so there's no reason for me to be here."

Valencia felt as if someone shattered her heart. The Hound was making her feel absolutely worthless. She swallowed harshly.

"If you won't stay for me then consider staying for information." The woman blurted.

This caught Malakai's attention.

"I know... I-I know just about everyone in this city. I know someone that can get you want you need."

Malakai slowly sat back down. Valencia came to kneel beside him on the couch.

"I can get you to someone who knows everything and everyone that comes in and out of Endorphin."

Malakai sighed heavily, pinching the bridge of his nose. He reached into his pocket and pulled out a packet. He pulled a small piece of paper out and threw it on the table.

They both watched the paper turn into a thick file with a puff of yellow magic.

"What's this guys name?"

"The Witch Doctor."

Malakai was reviewing his information hours after Valencia had informed him of the Witch Doctor.

Valencia had explained that he was a busy man, someone who would try to take advantage of him if he could. She told him she could handle that part.

Suddenly his phone rang.

He looked at the sleeping Valencia on the opposite end of the couch, curled up and answered.

"Yo," he gruffed out.

"Hey," Elio sounded. "You get Gabriel? Did he talk?"

"Ran into some trouble..." Malakai looked over to his mate.

"What kind? Are you alright?"

Malakai sighed, "The fixable kind. This is going to end, I've got another lead. Some dick named the Witch Doctor."

"Be careful with new intel. Kai no one would blame you if you took a hiatus on this. You're family misses you."

"I'm fine. They'll see me plenty when this is over. And it will be over."

Malakai hung up.

He lifted his bandages slowly to see the gash was beginning to heal. Kai looked down at his mate, he felt anxious around her. He could feel the bond straining on his self control.

Kai stood carefully before sliding his hands under her knees and back.

"You can do this Kai, c'mon you're 22. Not fucking fifteen, control yourself," he mumbled. Just touching her was fanning the fire inside him.

She gasped and leaned closer into his grasp, fisting his shirt.

He sniffed to the room that smelled most like her while staring at her.

She was so soft, so peaceful. He could never bring the little nymph into this.

"I'm in big trouble," Malakai winced silently as he laid the woman down. He braced his arms over her head, staring down at her. His strong fingers pushed her dark tendrils out of her face.

Malakai pushed himself up, trying to force himself to leave. To take his shit and go now while he still could.

"Fuuck," Kai hissed and stomped towards the living room. His hands smoked as he pressed them to his forehead.

He sat in a heap on the sofa, why couldn't he leave?

The demon was raging inside. His mind was churning out the dirtiest things possible. Storming inside her bedroom, mounting his mate and making her scream his name.

Malakai groaned and sunk further into the cushion. His cock began to harden, he squirmed at the thought of her ass overflowing from his palms and her bite sized breasts being just that. Bitten.

He raked a hand through his hair for the umpteenth time.

No, he growled to himself. He had to focus. This wouldn't stop anything.

She would be his mate from a distance. Just until he got his hands on Victor. Or at least until he got him to the point where Elora or Demetrius could do so.

He didn't want to take that kill away from Demetri. After all, Victor did take part in his parents death.

He rubbed his face tiredly, he'd figure this out. Everything just got a hell of a lot messier.
