Jennie removed the sweat that is dripping from her face using her cotton sleeves. It's winter season but the heat inside the four sides of the kitchen was hovering in addition to her washing the dishes for seven hours straight.
Ever since the incident that happened in her supposed first job, a lot of people avoided the foreign pair as gossips were faster to spread in their small town. Fortunately, an old couple gave her a chance to work at their cheap but famous eatery as long as she's hidden from the neighborhood's sight.
Taehyung was left to wait for her in their home every single day. He wanted to accompany her but she always declined, which he hated obliging.
As the clock ticked to 9 in the evening, beckoning her shift is over, she placed the last glassware in the cabinet after patting it dry. She removed her apron and bid goodbye to the old couple once made sure all customers have already left the eatery.
She was walking alone on the dark quiet street, which she have grown accustomed to after days of living in the area, when she was stopped on her tracks as she noticed a man smoking cigarette while he leaned nonchalantly on his black car.
She noticed a gleam, reflecting from the man's watch against the light that was given off by a lamp post. She realized it was the same man she saw at the restaurant last time, wearing the small timepiece she knew too well whom it belonged.
Without thinking, her feet brought her in front of him, making the man flinched in surprise. His eyes widen when he saw the face of the woman who gave him shudders from the past incident.
He puffed his cigarette for the last time as he straightened his posture and stepped on the tab once it reached the floor.
"You again. What do you want?"
"Just please answer my question. Where did you get that?" She pleadingly asked him while pointing on his wrist.
He shifted his gaze on the expensive watch and scoffed. He looked back at her from head to toe, judging her with the knowledge that no matter how long she worked hard, she can never afford it.
But her beauty is breathtaking, he thought. Maybe if she worked as an escort for their organization, she'll have a chance.
"I said, where did you get that?"
He chuckled with the woman's impatience. "Miss, you can't afford this."
He pressed the key of his car and swiftly opened the door, ready to go inside to savor its luxurious interior with its leather scent.
"Is that Jungkook's?" She painfully mentioned the name, letting it go off as a whisper but enough for him to hear.
The man froze as he never thought that he'd hear that name again. He hastily shifted his gaze back at the woman and moved his head to the side, amused how she knew his comrade.
"You know him?" He asked.
Her heart thumped. Although she knew who's the owner of the watch, she did not expect he had knowledge of him.
Yes, I do know him. Well, I did. She internally replied as she can't bring herself to utter any more words regarding him.
Their conversation was disturbed by the sudden ring of his phone. He looked at the caller and hesitantly answered it.
"Yoongi, she's alive." The man on the other end said without bothering to greet.
"Who?"
He waited for a few seconds before the caller replied. "Jennie. Jennie's alive."
Yoongi felt goosebumps all over his body after realizing he may have been talking to her all along. He unconsciously tightened his grip on his phone as he told him he's on his way before ending the call.
