Reader pov

As I walked into school, I noticed a strange purple-haired girl wearing our uniform lingering by the gate. She seemed lost so I walked up to her, "Hi, are you lost?"

She nodded shyly, "Yeah, do you know where 3-A is?"

I grinned, "That's my class! Are you the transfer student we heard about last week?"

She nodded again, hiding behind her long lavender hair, "I am, my name is Kiyoko Shimizu."

I nodded in the direction of our class, "I'm Y/N L/N, now let's get to class!"

She seemed vaguely shocked, "L/N?! Isn't that the... nevermind."

She trailed off when she noticed me watching her, which confused me to some degree, but I shook it off as nerves. She took her seat next to me and class started with Asuka calling Shimizu up to the front, "We have a new student today! Please introduce yourself!"

My new friend walked up front, bowed to the entire class, then a purple pair of scissors appeared in her hand, "My name is Kiyoko Shimizu. My quirk is Scissors and allows me to create a pair of unbreakable scissors that can cut through anything. I hope you'll accept me into your class as one of your own." ***I based her quirk of Sheele's Imperial Arms from Akame Ga Kill, and she also has purple hair because I loved Sheele as a character!***

She quickly returned to her seat and class resumed as usual.

After school, Shimizu asked to walk to the subway station with me. We made small talk and eventually, Shimizu revealed why, "I live in the western part of Musutafu, right at the outskirts, so I have to take a subway there and back everyday."

Western Musutafu. The suburb I called home back when my parents were still alive. I went quiet and Shimizu quietly asked, "Are you okay?"

I nodded and forced a smile, "Yeah, it just brings back memories, that's all! I used to live there, so I'm quite familiar with it!"

She accepted that, then we reached the station and parted ways. She needed to go to platform B and I stayed on platform A.

I was so troubled that I didn't notice Hawks waiting for me at my stop and I almost walked past him. Eventually, the bright red feather bobbing up and down in front of my nose reminded me that I'd taken him up on his offer to walk around with him and watch him do his hero work. I brightened up immediately and walked up to Hawks, who dryly commented, "Am I really so easy to forget about?"

I nodded, looking right past him as I spoke in a wistful tone, "Sometimes being a hero is hard, and now might just be one of those times."

I almost managed to stay deadpan but when he winked at me, a chuckle escaped and I soon lost the ability to stop my laughter. I muffled myself with one hand, then quickly went to the bathroom and pulled some casual clothes out of my bag. I got changed into some baggy grey sweatpants, a F/C shirt, and a dark blue jacket, then shouldered my bag and met Hawks again. He graciously motioned towards the stairs leading out of the subway, "Musutafu awaits."

I flicked my H/L hair in an exaggeratedly posh manner, "I don't think they're ready for us!"

He gave me a shocked look, "You didn't bring it, did you!?"

With a devilish smile, I nodded and pulled it out of my pocket. Hawks flinched away from me as I dangled the chibi-Hawks keychain that I'd acquired the day before in front of him and then laughed, mussing my hair, "Come on, you rascal!"

On this particular Friday, Musutafu seemed quiet. The largest incidents were a dog almost getting hit by a truck and a blind old lady almost crossing the road without help, both of which we resolved with ease. However, the peace was soon disrupted. At around 5 in the afternoon, Hawks' phone buzzed and he instantly picked up. He glanced at me, "It's an emergency. Can you get home?"

Excitement buzzed through me, "I promise I'll stay out of the way!"

He deliberated for a second, then a small cloud of feathers picked me up and carried me alongside him as he flew into town. We landed outside a bank with huge gouges in it, flames licking at the advertisements on the windows, making them curl before turning to ash. Hawks allowed me to follow him inside after the flames were dealt with and we saw the Villain's damage up close. Clean cuts had been made, slicing cleanly through steel with seemingly no resistance. Hawks looked at the damage for a few seconds, then grimly spoke, "This is the Cutter's doing."

I'd heard of the Cutter, but only a few times, "The Cutter?"

He nodded, tracing a gash near an empty ATM, "Their quirk seemingly gives them a blade that can cut through anything, but it seems to have limited use. But if their quirk was all they had up their sleeve, we'd have caught them already. The Cutter is clever, always carefully planning their attacks to line up with weakspots they've discovered. They're so stealthy that we don't even know their gender."

I shivered, "Geez, I couldn't imagine having someone like that running around in Musutafu!"

Hawks snorted softly, "The only reason I let you come was because the Cutter was already long gone. If they'd been cornered, I would've had Fuyumi pick you up while I went after them."

I pouted, "But my threads are unbreakable! What if I can stop them?"

He hummed, seemingly deep in thought, "Maybe, but maybe not. For now, we'll keep you safely out of harm's way, okay?"

If only I wasn't on a crash course with what was likely to be a deadly mistake.

***So, what are your thoughts on Kiyoko and the Cutter? This wasn't originally where I wanted to go with this chapter but hey, when inspiration strikes, there's no point in ignoring it! And when exactly did this story hit 700 reads!?!??! I love you guys all so much!! Author-chan out!***
