My head went up in shock when I heard my name and my eyes darted around the room, finding a surprising number of familiar faces. Shoto, Midoriya, Mina, and Bakugo were all looking at me with shock and I gave them a sheepish grin, "Hiya guys! Funny seeing you here!"
They all gave me exasperated looks just as the door opened and someone in a yellow sleeping bag caterpillar-crawled in. They stood up and unzipped it a bit, then the top half of a hero I recognized as Eraser Head emerged. He held up a uniform, "This is a PE uniform. You'll find one for each of you in the changing rooms. Once you've gotten changed, go to the training field."
Within a minute of his tired announcement, the room was empty. I ran to the changing rooms, excited for my first lesson at UA, and quickly found my uniform. It was quite easy to find as they were all folded neatly with name cards on them, so I took mine and hopped into a toilet stall to get changed. It was no surprise that I was one of the first to reach the training field after stowing my other uniform in a locker and Aizawa didn't seem to care what we did until everyone was here.
Naturally, I walked up to Shoto and Midoriya, then introduced them to each other. When Mina arrived, she boisterously joined in by tackling me to the ground with a laugh. I hit her playfully, then Eraser Head's bored voice reached us, "My name is Shota Aizawa. I will be your homeroom teacher for the duration of your time at UA. I've elected to skip the orientation and immediately do a quirk apprehension test. You will do various exercises while using your quirks to measure your potential."
He turned around and we all thought he'd finished, but he glanced back at us with a shit-eating grin, "Oh, and by the way, the person who ranks in last place out of the entire class will be expelled on the spot."
We all gasped in unison, "Ehhhh!?!"
His eyes turned on me, "L/N, you're first. Throw this ball as far as you can while using your quirk."
I thought hard about how to best throw the baseball-sized ball with threads, then inspiration struck. I held it in my hand, braided five threads into a rope, attached the threads to the ball, and threw it straight up. I flicked my arm back, then cracked the long rope like a whip. My timing with the thread release was a bit off, but the ball still shot off near the peak of the crack. It soared through the sky and I grinned, then turned to Aizawa, "How did I do?"
He showed me his screen, displaying an ever raising number of meters. Finally, the ball seemed to stop moving near the 1264 meter mark. He showed the rest of the class my results and gestured in their direction, "Go back to your class."
I got a lot of congratulations and surprised looks, but the ones that filled my heart the most were the proud faces of my friends. And yes, even Bakugo looked vaguely proud of me. I watched the rest of the class perform the ball throw with relative ease, but my gut clenched when it was Midoriya's turn. He'd frantically texted me after the entrance exam that although he'd managed to contain One for All, his limbs broke when he used it. It was no surprise that Aizawa stopped Midoriya at first, but then, Midoriya finally threw.
He focused his quirk on one finger, the single point of his body that would be last to stop touching the ball, and said ball shot through the sky. We saw the clouds get pierced by the ball as Aizawa's screen monitored the distance, then he triumphantly showed us the distance, "756.3 meters!"
It was a meter and ten centimeters further than Bakugo's throw. Irritation was evident in the ash blonde's face as he marched up to Midoriya, "You were supposed to be a pebble!"
I sighed, then latched threads onto the backs of his ankles and pulled. His legs fell out from underneath him as I walked over, "Midoriya won this time. All it means is that you have to beat him next time. Now calm down!"
His bloodred eyes narrowed at me, then he stopped struggling to get up and fight Midoriya. I helped him up, then gave Midoriya a thumbs-up as we walked by. The rest of the assessment went smoothly:
In the 50 meter dash, I pulled myself along my threads by shortening them after attaching them to a point further than the finish line. My time was 6 seconds on the dot.
For the grip strength test, I wrapped threads around the device and shortened them, tightening them to inhuman levels. My final score for grip strength was 500kgs.
In the sidestepping, I used one hand's worth of threads for each side, then shortened and lengthened them in sync, greatly aiding my already nimble movements. I scored fourth in class for sidestepping at 126 sidesteps in a minute.
During situps, there wasn't really all too much that my quirk could do to help me, so I just did it normally. I completed 51 situps within a minute.
I made a pulley system on the ceiling for the bench press, then continued adding weights until I was at my carry limit. 122kgs was my limit, placing me pretty high up in the class.
In long jump, I anchored threads to a point far behind and above the pit, then simply pulled. Needless to say, my score was an inhuman 56 meters.
And last but not least, the 1.5 kilometer run. I used the same strategy as with the 50 meter dash, but attached to the ground and pulled myself along in short bursts. I was just barely above average, but my agility definitely helped!
All in all, I placed sixth in the class, and Midoriya unfortunately landed in last. Aizawa grinned as Midoriya began having an existential crisis, "Oh, and by the way, I was lying about the expulsion."
