Malika smiled brightly, her eyes sparkling with excitement. "Let's go upstairs, shall we? I want to save the basement for later!" She glanced over at Hoyt, hoping to coax him along.
Monty chuckled softly, shaking his head. "I'll just wait here unless Thomas is planning to carry my old self up those stairs." He muttered under his breath, his tone a mix of humour and resignation.
Malika's expression turned thoughtful as she suddenly remembered something important. "Oh! I nearly forgot, Monty! You're coming with me!" She quickly moved to grab the handles of his wheelchair, ensuring he was ready to go.
As they approached a brand-new elevator, Monty's eyes widened in amazement, and his jaw dropped. The sleek design and modern appearance of the elevator were unlike anything he had seen before. Malika handed him a special key and began to explain the operation of the elevator with enthusiasm. "This key is just for you, Monty. Since you have a disability, you'll have the freedom to access both the basement and the upstairs whenever you want. It will make things so much easier for you."
She paused to let the information sink in before clarifying, "Now, this key I just gave you is for the elevator, but remember, there's another key specifically for accessing the vault."
Monty looked at the key thoughtfully. "Okay, so how exactly do I use it?" he asked, leaning forward to inspect the elevator's control panel with curiosity.
Malika beamed, eager to explain. "It's really simple! First, you unlock the elevator doors with this key." She demonstrated, turning the key in the lock with a confident twist. "Once inside, you'll insert this other key to select the basement level. Just make sure to switch it to the right after you insert it. When that's done, the button for the basement will light up. All you have to do is press that button, and you'll be on your way down!" She handed him the second key with a grin, feeling proud of how much easier this would make things for him.
Luda May, who had been watching with growing curiosity, chimed in, "Can we give it a try, Malika? I'm interested to see how it works!"
Hoyt, observing the excitement, raised an eyebrow and smirked. "Aren't you lucky? You've already got two special keys!" His comment was half-joking, but there was a hint of envy in his tone.
Malika nodded enthusiastically. "Of course!" she encouraged, her voice warm with support.
With excitement buzzing in the air, Hoyt stepped into the elevator alongside Luda May, who gently pushed Monty inside, making sure he was comfortable. Malika looked back at Thomas, who had been standing nearby, and her expression shifted to one of inquiry. "Do you want to try it out too?" she asked, tilting her head slightly.
Thomas simply shook his head, a hint of a smile playing on his lips, but his answer was clear: he preferred to watch this time.
Luda May gestures toward the staircase, instructing Thomas and Malika to take the stairs and assuring them that they will meet up with the rest of the group upstairs. With an enthusiastic flourish, she slams the button for the elevator, almost bouncing on her feet in excitement. As the heavy doors slide shut, Thomas and Malika exchange puzzled glances, feeling a mix of confusion and curiosity about what lies ahead.
Determined, they ascend the staircase, their footsteps echoing against the walls. When they reach the landing, they pause in front of the elevator. As the doors open, the trio steps out, their faces lighting up with smiles. Thomas nudges Malika playfully, remarking on the elevator's luxurious design. "I can't believe how nice that lift was!" he says with a chuckle. Malika winks back at them, her eyes gleaming with mischief. "Oh, you haven't seen anything yet!" she replies, her tone teasing.
