groaning loudly, the sandy-blonde man exerted the little energy sparing his physically exhausted body, and he cracked his heavy lids open, scanning the unfamiliar area. he mentally shifted, breaking out the fog of exhaustion launching through his body as his surroundings cleared. light speckled through the partially parted curtains strung over the massive wall of glass windows that held the perfect view of the city burning in the rising sun.

the older man grumbled loudly, pressing the wild, pesky strands of wispy hairs behind his ears and combing his long fingers through the rest of tousled curls attached to his head. he twisted his head to each side, piercing his surroundings with a steady, clear view, and he paused the second he spotted the warm ball nuzzled against his body.

luke hesitantly resumed his normal breathing, heavy pants falling out his parted lips, yet his previously relaxed body stilled as he gathered the thoughts racing in his mind. remaining in the brief moment left the options plaguing the older man's mind, but ticking it off the top of his desires was unimaginable. however, the single reason luke was drawn out of his sleep and made the long lasting moment unattainable as something vibrates relentlessly a few feet away.

the hazy man leaned forward, quite careful on his movements, and he grabbed the pesky thing, shock washing over his dreadful features. the phone belonged to the man sleeping peacefully beside him instead. luke glanced cautiously around for his phone, and he snatched it up quickly, reviewing the very few notifications he received since returning to the states.

the unexpected blank screen would eventually mimic ashton's in a matter of days; though he rejoiced in the peace, it disturbed him slightly.

luke mistakenly glanced over the messages since he recognized the the contact name belonging to ashton's best friend, and he read the messages that weren't meant for his prying eyes. he released a shaky breathe, placing the phone beside him on the arm rest as he glanced over at the peacefully sleeping body snuggled close to him. the icy eyes trailed the extent of ashton's body, pausing abruptly.

the quick praising glances over ashton's body had been too quick; luke had completely skipped over the younger man's exposed body. somewhere, in the middle of the night when the two tangled themselves closer together for much more warmth, the blanket must had slipped off the still resting man as it pooled around his wide hips, and it left ashton's small, swollen stomach displayed to anyone glancing.

the older man shakily clicked the vibrating phone off completely, placing the object on the opposite end of the couch before he stood on his numb, wobbly legs. it was a quite lethal combination as he staggered towards the coffee table, but he managed to catch himself, avoiding waking the pregnant man up before he could possibly process the overwhelming, newfound information.

rubbing a hand over his stubbled jaw, luke clambered his way to the kitchen and shuffled his way around as he searched for the ground coffee. he began a pot as he took a spot at the bar, letting his hands fall into his face and rubbing roughly over his face. he analyzed the situation over and over until countless scenarios occupied his racing, muddled thoughts, and then, he proceeded to deny each one.
