Jay's POV
I stared into beady red eyes. They were cold and empty. No emotion at all. They were like two pools of never ending darkness, pitch black and infinite, nothing seeming to have hope.
I kept staring at myself in the mirror. My "hands" gripping against the sink, focusing all my attention on the mirror. If I could just hold my focus long enough, maybe I'd finally get a chance to see them.
"Jay honey! Dinner's ready!"
Completely losing control, my eyes flicker back to their normal electric blue, and I shift back into my more..... human look.
I walk out of the bathroom and into the kitchen of the minivan. Ma and Pa were already there, plating up dinner. I sighed and sat down.
"Why the long face, kiddo?" Pa said, noticing my mood.
"Did you try to see 'em again?" Ma asked me sweetly.
I nodded and they sat down next to me, pulling me into a hug. ¨I know you want to see them, hon. And I know this is hard for you to go through, but we're still here for you. So come talk to us whenever you need to, alright?¨
I nodded my head, and walked to my room.
"You don't want anything to eat?" Pa asked, concerned
I shook my head, "No thanks, Pa. I'm not that hungry anyways."
Plopping on my bed, I lay there, still, until I finally sit up and open my computer.
I googled "Fritz Donnagen"
A bunch of stuff from the old movies and shows appeared, but nothing I was looking for.
"Cliff Gordon"
Some more stuff appeared. Including old news reports of his past life.
"evil Cliff Gordon"
A couple other news reports showed up that seemed to peak my interest, but still, they weren't what I was trying to find.
"monster Cliff Gordon"
nope
"Cliff Gordon attacks"
nothing
" killer Cliff Gordon"
still nothing
"chupacabra Cliff Gordon"
bingo.
I clicked on an old news report from... let's see..... 18? 19 years ago? Yeah that sounds about right.
"I'm here live on the scene where many reports have been filed of random deaths and sudden murders. Let's find out what happened."
The news reporter turned to a villager, "I-it w-was t-t-ten feet tall, no fur, just skin. It's beady little eyes stared into my soul before I passed out. When I awoke, my house was in ruins, and my wife and child were lying dead on the ground" The screen turned back to the reporter, "You heard him folks, this creature is out there and will kill every single soul just for the fun of it..... and now Kevin with the weather!"
Desperate for more information, I watched another one, "Monster burns down orphanage leaving no child alive" and another, "Monster is named Chupacabra" and another "chupacabra murders 200 citizens at local event" I watched as many as I could, scrolling through each and every one of them. Until I finally came across the last few videos I wanted to watch.
"I'm here live on the scene where during an attack at the Jade Palace, the Chupacabra was finally caught, and their identity was revealed. Many are still shocked that the monster was none other than the famed actor, Cliff Gordon"¨ The camera turned to Cliff, roughed up and covered in blood. He looked at the camera and turned away, obviously ashamed.
If I'm being honest, none of it scared me. But the part that got my attention the most was in the background, I could barely see a familiar figure. Zooming in and enhancing it, the wave of emotions hit me faster than I could've thought it would. The figure was a woman with blonde hair, holding a small blue bundle with an auburn top in her arms. Both were crying.
The next video was when he escaped prison. But the last one got me mad, REALLY mad. "I'm here once again live on the scene, where authorities have followed the escaped monster all the way to this small home in Jamanakai village. The police are about to engage"
A bunch of police officers burst through the front door of their home, only to find the blonde woman and Cliff standing there, embraced in a tearful hug. He looked her in the eyes and said, "Go, call Ed and Edna. Hide Jay and tell them where he is." She nodded and ran off with the same blue and auburn bundle from before.
A few minutes later she returned, before some weird guys dressed in cloaks or something walked in. They held out some tree branches- no wait they were wands- and pointed them at Cliff and the blonde. That's when a line from every mirror shot at them, before they disappeared into a cloud of smoke.
The reporter ran up to the mysterious cloaked people. "Hi there! I'm a huge fan! It's such and honor to meet the real Ray and Maya Smith! Tell me, after what you called a "retirement" will you be coming back?"
The female, Maya I guess, leaned into the microphone to speak, "No, we're done. Of course we had to show up this time though! The fate of Ninjago was at steak! But I can assure you, with our kid at home-"
The male, who I take it was Ray, interrupted her, "and another on the way" he smiled
Maya rolled her eyes and turned back to the camera, "anyways, the point is, we have a lot on our hands right now. But I can assure you, one day someone will step in and take our place as the rightful protectors of Ninjago!"
"Wonderful! One last question though," the reporter said, "where did you send them?"
Ray smiled, "somewhere far from here; the realm of mirrors."
I slammed my computer shut. What right do they have to send them away?! The monster inside Cliff couldn't be controlled yet they still attacked. They were innocent! They..... they were my family and..... this is my only memory of them. Their horror story. My dad's horror story.
My horror story.
