Chapter 13
Chapter Text
Bakugo woke up an hour later in the hospital, Aizawa pacing the room yelling into his phone. With everyone keeping an eye out, the only oddity anyone saw was himself leaving with a large bag he threw in the trunk of an unmarked, unlicensed car, which somehow disappeared into a fog of taxis. They kept an eye out, looking for anything else unusual, but no one could find anything, not a peep from Izuku or the other Aizawa who'd taken him.
“Fuck...” Bakugo grumbled, sitting up, seeing his old teacher turn to him with his teeth grit. “He got him, didn't he?” Bakugo looked up, feeling his heart drop as Aizawa nodded.
“Who was it?” He asked, sitting on the side of the bed, and Bakugo looked up, his brow knit before he looked down.
“You. He looked and sounded just like you. He said he needed to talk to me about a mission, and as soon as Izuku was in the shower, I peeked in to make sure he was alright and he jabbed me with a needle. Next thing I know is now.” Bakugo grumbled, rubbing his neck.
“So the reports weren't wrong.” Aizawa groaned, rubbing his eyes, anticipating a long, sleepless night. “You were found passed out on the floor, still in your suit, with your legs over a bench. We had to have your head scanned for concussions. You're fine, by the way. The shower was still running, and Midoriya's clothes and towel were still in the shower, but he was gone.”
“Breeze is still locked up?” Bakugo asked, and Aizawa nodded. “Then do we have any other suspects?”
“We're trying to back track anyone who was seen coming into the office twice, or looking for anyone who shouldn't have been in, but so far we haven't found anyone.” Aizawa watched as Bakugo nodded, pulling his feet from the bed to stand. “Wait, you shouldn't get up yet.”
“Deku's been taken. Try to fucking stop me. My old teacher or not, I'll go through you to find him.” Bakugo stood, giving Aizawa a look that let him know he wasn't joking, though honestly Aizawa wouldn't have thought him to be in the first place.
“You're too much trouble.” Aizawa sighed, tossing Bakugo a spare sweatsuit he brought along. It was black, and a bit tight on him, but Bakugo wasn't about to complain. “Let's get you signed out, at least. If you go MIA I can't let you back to work.” Aizawa sighed as he turned, going to the nurse' station.
It wasn't more than a handful of minutes before they were in Aizawa's car, Aizawa's phone on loudspeaker as he talked with people around the office, which was now under lock down as they tried to figure out what was happening. “They had a scanner. They were able to scan my key card to get into the building, into my office, we tracked the inter office cameras and traced them, but all we can really figure out is they came out of my office and went to the locker room. There's no way of knowing how they got into my office. The only other person to go in actually was me.” Aizawa grumbled, seeing Bakugo nod, his gaze absent as he stared out through the window. “We'll find him.”
“They tried to kill him last time. He could already be dead.” Bakugo swallowed down his nerves, his hands moving to rub over his arms, trying to warm himself from a chill only he felt. He tucked his head down, trying to hide himself from that thought, though Aizawa shook his head.
“If they were going to kill him like that, they would have just done it. They wouldn't have gone through the trouble of sneaking him out. They want him for something. We have to figure out what for, though.” Aizawa looked over, seeing Bakugo nod.
A thought popped into his head and he frowned, swallowing nervously. “His quirk.” He looked over, seeing Aizawa glance over, though he didn't stop his words. “What if it's someone who doesn't know about his quirk? If they think they can get pregnant from him, that would explain why the rape, and why he said it seemed like they wanted him to get off. It wasn't just for the embarrassment factor, but because that's what they were after.” He thought out loud, and Aizawa swallowed nervously.
“That may be. Only one way to find out. We have to save him, and ask the guy who took him after Midoriya beats the hell out of him.” Aizawa didn't bother saying anything else.
With what he'd said, all Bakugo could do was wait and trust that he was right.
But by the end of the night there was nothing new. Bakugo went home to get a change of clothes in the early hours of the morning, looking like hell, and Kaminari saw him, stepping back to stay away from the wrath he knew would be coming if he were to get in his way.
Unfortunately, Kirishima didn't notice quite the state he was in and stared, looking around. “You look like shit. Where's Midoriya?”
“Kidnapped.” He mumbled, tossing open his bedroom door. “If you see him anywhere, just call me and then the cops. And if you see Aizawa anywhere, ask him his favorite number. If he says anything besides 12, kill him.” Bakugo grabbed a bag full of clothes, shoving them into a bookbag before he thought again and went, getting an outfit for Izuku as well. He lifted the pillow from his side of the bed, holding it to his face.
It still smelled like him.
Bakugo felt a tremor run through him at the thought that that could be it. This could be the last time he smelled him, the last familiar touch and broke, sitting on the bed shaking like a leaf, tears in his eyes as he crushed the pillow to his chest, holding to it for dear life.
Kaminari came in and helped comfort him a little, patting his back, though after a moment Bakugo stood, shaking it off. “I can't help him if I'm not out there.” He shook his head, turning to head back to work.
“Did you even sleep?” Kirishima asked, and Bakugo turned, looking at him with a growl.
“I'll sleep after I find him.” He slammed the door as he left, leaving the two staring after him with worry.
Of course this lead to the two of them letting their own agency know that they needed to keep an eye out for him, as well as what they said about the numbers, but Kirishima made sure to only tell it to a few people who he knew, who wouldn't tell anyone else. After all, if it wasn't something they were making public, then there would be another reason, and they'd have to look into it.
But all the same, a few hours later, Aizawa personally called them, and told them to come up with code questions, and informed them that there was a mimic who was killing subs and that they'd already kidnapped a sub hero. When Kirishima asked him his favorite number, Aizawa chuckled.
“I forgot you live with Bakugo. 12. An even dozen.” He listened as Kirishima sighed.
“We'll pass on the news. And we hope he's found soon. Katsuki almost broke this morning. Keep an eye on him.” Kirishima said softly, and Aizawa nodded.
“He's asleep in the locker room. There wasn't anything else he could do, but he wouldn't go home. I'll keep an eye on him, but he's sticking to places he's afraid of at the moment. Don't expect much from him for a while.” Aizawa admitted, and Kirishima sighed.
“I know. I wouldn't. If Denki disappeared I'd probably break apart.” He admitted, hearing the line go dead. “Aizawa?”
“I... completely forgot you and Kaminari were together. Ah, I feel so old. You know to keep an eye out. If anything happens, let us know, and we'll do the same.” He sighed, getting an understanding hum before he hung up.
After that he went back to looking over the cameras he had spread over the town, but with all of the cameras that had been set up inside of their own headquarters, he wondered what the chances were that there were cameras set up in other places they didn't have access to.
He sighed, hating to ask these kinds of favors, but he didn't have many options.
And that's what lead to Aizawa standing alone on the front of the warehouse in the early hours of the morning, knocking at the door, though there was no answer. He couldn't tell if there was simply no one there, or if the girl that they'd left behind was asleep, but all the same, he couldn't simply break in. He gave another hard knock before looking around, noticing something.
The same cameras that were inside the headquarters were everywhere. He turned around, seeing the small reflections beneath posters, hidden in the shadows beneath rivets on street lights, in cracks in the mortar between bricks. He swallowed as he realized that the three here were the most surveyed of them all. There had to be twice as many cameras here as there had been in the whole of the headquarters.
But if there were, and they knew about the cameras, why weren't they showing up on the screens when they were inside? Were these ones on a different frequency? He realized the chances that this group was in even more trouble than they were in and ran to his car, rushing to the jail as quickly as he could.
As soon as he was in, Melissa was brought into an interrogation room. “Alright, now I need to know what's going on.”
“What happened?” She asked, her expression bored as she leaned against the table.
“They got Midoriya. Took him out of the headquarters while wearing my face.” He paced, his mind working to try and put everything together.
“That sucks.” She sighed, but offered no other words.
“I went to ask if I could look over the monitors you had up again. There was no one there, but when I turned around-”
“What do you mean there was no one there?” Melissa cut him off, her expression turned to worry.
Aizawa shrugged. “She may have been asleep. She didn't answer the door. Maybe she was ignoring me.” He watched as she looked away, thinking as well. “Either way, I noticed the same cameras all over the front doorway. They were everywhere. If you're not the one recording, do you know who is?”
“No. And now I'm worried about Tanya. She hasn't been left home alone for more than a few hours. If they took off with him, maybe they took her too.” She nervously nibbled her lip.
“Did you know about the cameras around your warehouse?” Aizawa asked, and she nodded.
“I did, but we weren't taking them down. We were waiting until they made a move and then we were going to track the signal back to where it was coming from. The main hub seems to move, but there's one main area they keep moving to, but they move again before we can fully track it.” She answered, and Aizawa nodded.
“What area?” Aizawa asked, figuring maybe a look in that area may turn something up.
“The block between 112 and 113th avenues and 26th and 27th street. It's only about six building fronts, but I couldn't figure out which one.” She answered, and Aizawa nodded, standing.
“If I find Tanya, I'll come back and let you know.” He sighed. “If this ends out being good information, I'll make sure to do my best to get you out sooner.” He turned and left, leaving Melissa staring in surprise.
It wasn't long before Aizawa was back at headquarters, pulling Bakugo into his car, who was still convinced he was unwillingly being taken home, though after they started driving in the opposite direction, he relaxed a little, looking around. “What are we looking for?” Bakugo asked, and Aizawa shrugged.
“I have no clue. Me? Midoriya? Hell, at this point, even you. Ah, question. What's my favorite number?” He asked, and Bakugo stared.
“That's not how the questions are supposed to go. I'm supposed to ask you.” Bakugo stared, and Aizawa nodded.
“I didn't get a question for you, so this has to do. What is it?” Aizawa asked, and Bakugo rolled his eyes.
“Twelve. What was the first important thing you told Midoriya?” Bakugo came up with on the fly, and Aizawa thought.
“That he'd never be a hero, I think.” Aizawa chuckled at the memory, and Bakugo relaxed. It was close enough, and definitely something only Aizawa would know he'd said to a student.
“Tanya is missing as well. I went by the warehouse to see if I could get another look at the cameras. I was hoping maybe they had another angle or something that would help, but no one answered the door. We're heading there first. If we need to, we're breaking in so we know if she's missing or just asleep. Then we have a possible place to look, but we don't really know for certain.” He sighed, and Bakugo looked over in surprise.
“Why aren't we going there first?!” Bakugo yelled out, doing his best not to accidentally singe the car.
“Because there's something I need to see for myself. I still don't trust them.” Aizawa sighed, starting to piece things together in an image he didn't like.
