I couldn't find any good Ben memes so I just did a book one  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

"We bleed and fight for you- sometimes it seems that's all we do."

     Ben Hanscom studied his hand as he walked home from school. If he focused hard enough, he could make only the hand invisible.

     He arrived at his house and knocked on the door. The moment his mother answered, he knew something was wrong. Her face looked too pale, her expression too anxious.

     "What's-" he began. His mother pressed a finger to her lips and motioned him to come in. She wrote on a piece of paper, They might be listening.

     "Who? What are you talking about, Mom?"

     She sighed in frustration and continued writing. Government came to see if you were a mutant. Convinced them you weren't. They left pretty quickly, said something about another lead. But I think they bugged the house.

     Ben's stomach plummeted. When he was 11 and his power manifested, his mother found out. Even though she wasn't a mutant, she hid him. Protected him. But if the government had come here . . . they were onto her.

     Ben backed towards the stairs, his head spinning. "I- I'm going upstairs," he gasped out, before sprinting to his bedroom.

     He laid there, lost in thought. He couldn't do this anymore. He couldn't live here. This was putting his mother in danger. Horrible things happened to people who harbored mutants. If something happened to her . . . it would be his fault.

     The image of his mom being dragged away by officials made up his mind. Grabbing a backpack and unzipping it, he proceeded to stuff everything he needed into it.

     After he had packed, he grabbed a piece of paper and frantically scribbled a note.

     Mom-
I'm sorry, but I can't stay here. Being with you in this house only puts you in danger. I can't let you die because of me. I'm leaving. Please don't follow me.
I love you so much.
     Ben

     Ben swallowed and tears began to bubble in his eyes. Slinging the bag over his shoulder, he walked to the stairs.

     Focusing, he turned himself (and the backpack) invisible. He snuck downstairs and over next to the living room, where his mom was sitting, looking pensive.

     As Ben watched her, still invisible, he forced himself not to sob. A slow tear trickled down his face.

     He turned away, out of the room and out the door. He took one last look at his house, then turned around and went into the unknown.

This was pretty much just a filler chapter to set up how Ben is involved. Also, from here on in the chapter get longer.
