I jump over the sofa and sit onto the couch, Tony looks at me "Do you mind?" I shake my head and pick up the Chinese take-out. I kick my feet up making Tony roll his eyes. Natasha puts on the movie as I pick through the food in the box.
Steve looks at me, "Are you sure you're okay?" I glance over at my dad, then Steve shrugging "Do you want to talk about it?"
"I don't know," I whisper, "I think I did something stupid. But, I had fun, so I don't know if I regret it."
"Was it dangerous?" I hesitated then nodded "Did someone die?" I have no idea what Spiderguy did with those bodies. I shake my head "Will someone die?" I shake my head "Then it's fine. You're safe. Other people are safe, it's fine."
Maybe Steve, the infamous 'come and beat me up' Steve Rogers isn't the best to give me advice on safety. He could also be the perfect guy. I smile and finish the food. Whilst everyone was watching the movie, I went downstairs to the apartment.
I sit on the balcony and peer down at the city. I already want to go back. Dad sits next to me, brushing the hair out of my eyes "What's up?"
"Why did you save me?" I whisper. Dad looked very confused as I faced him, "Like, you could've just left, you didn't have to do anything. Lord knows I wouldn't have remembered. Why did you do it?"
The look he gave me, it was like I've asked him the dumbest question ever. But I really wanted to know. There is so much that comes with raising a kid, especially if the kid isn't yours. Dad shrugs "Because I love you, Mila. You're my family. I'd do anything for you."
"There were heaps of people there. It couldn't have been easy."
"Of course it wasn't easy. I don't care. You're stuck with me, kiddo." I smile. Dad kisses my head then hugs me tight, "Now tell me what's wrong, or I'm putting you up for adoption."
I snicker and shake my head "Nothing. Everything's great." I pull back and then look at his metal arm "I didn't know you needed car insurance." He peers down and takes the magnet off and rolls his eyes, "I thought it was funny."
"You think everything is funny."
I smile at him. Dad stands up, "If you need to talk, about anything, I'm here for you," I nod. Dad closes the doors as he goes back inside. I look at my hands, the cuts were started to seep blood. I cross my hands over my chest.
-
This sucks. I keep turning my hands around then face Bruce "This is stupid. I feel stupid," He shrugs. I show him the gloves and shake my hands in his face, "Banner, come on man. Sympathise with me."
"Mila, it's only for two days."
I roll my eyes. That's too long. Tony says goodnight to us as he leaves, Bruce waves goodbye. He looks between me, then the door. He puts something down, then faced me, "What happened to you yesterday? Were you sick?"
"No, just didn't want to watch the movie."
"Really? You didn't feel strange or different?" I shake my head, "Mila. Did you go outside?"
"No? Why?"
"You didn't stop at the pizza place three blocks away from here? That didn't happen?"
That was weirdly specific. I shake my head. "I saw you outside Mila. You were out, for two hours. Why didn't you tell me?" Because I knew he would act like this. I shrug, "I need to do more tests--."
"Bruce, I'm fine. Nothing happened." Except for the part where I was corned in an alley. Then, watched some red spandex guy beat the shit out of dangerous people.
He didn't look impressed or happy, "Does my dad know?" I whisper. Bruce shakes his head, "Are you going to tell him?"
Bruce pulls over a chair, "Mila. You're very sick, and you lied to me. And your dad, everybody." I look down at my lap, "I'm not going to tell your dad, on one condition."
"Let me guess, I stay here forever." I roll my eyes, "I had fun. I haven't had fun in years, Bruce. Imagine being locked up and everyone wants you to thank them. I can't keep living like this." I stand up but Bruse pulls me back into the chair.
I cross my legs and look away from him, "The day you wake up without trying to rip your hands open, is the day you can walk outside. I'm sorry you feel trapped but I can't help you if you keep running away. If you do it again, I'm telling your dad."
My dad would be so disappointed with me. I nod my head as I face him again, "If I left again, would you come with me?" Bruce shakes his head, "I won't leave this tower until I'm better. But I am leaving this lab because I'm tired."
Bruce follows me to the door and watched me walk back to the apartment. I keep going up until I saw Natasha in the common area. I smile at her and sit next to her, "What's wrong kiddo?"
"I look like Micheal Jackson," I show her my gloves.
Natasha smiles, "You look very cute."
"I'd rather be threatening." I roll my eyes.
Natasha laughs as she stands up, "Well, hopefully, people will be more cautious tomorrow, huh?" She winked. Right. My birthday. I nod rolling my eyes, "Come on sourpuss, it's going to be fun. I've got something awesome planned. How are you with spiders and snakes?"
"Amazing, I can eat them in under 4 seconds." Natasha hugs me tight, as she turns to go. I wave goodbye and throw my head back, sitting on the sofa. I look at the gloves and roll my eyes.
Bruce is right. It sucks because I know he's right. But I'd rather die doing something I like then stuck inside of my bedroom under surveillance. It wouldn't be as bad if I at least got to see my dad more. Tony comes downstairs and looks at me, "Nice gloves."
I glance at him then roll my eyes. I'm not in the mood for our usual bickering. He actually stopped walking and turns to face him, "Are you feeling okay?"
"Are you considered a genius?" I ask.
"Some would say so."
"Then can you please cure me so I can leave your castle and make friends?" I feign a smile at him.
He looks at me, then shrugged, "I'll give it a shot." I face my lap again. I hear him walk away again. I take a deep breath in and look up at the skyline. Another birthday, stuck in a tower.
