They call him The King-a ghost who rules the world's most powerful mafia from the shadows. No face. No mercy. No mistakes.
And beside...

The sun hadn't risen yet.
The city outside the window was a wash of dim grays and shadows, just quiet enough to make the silence feel unnatural. Luca leaned against the glass, one hand gripping his phone, the other curled tightly at his side.
"She was taken, Luca," his mother whispered. "You need to stop thinking there's a chance she ran."
"I know that," he said, voice hoarse from the hour—and from the ache in his chest. "I knew that the second she didn't call me back."
"She's my baby," her voice broke. "And they took her."
Luca didn't reply.
Behind him, Kaia lay tangled in the sheets, one bare leg draped over the comforter, her hair a disheveled halo against the pillows. Her back was exposed—scars, bruises, fading red marks like war paint—and she didn't stir. Memento Mori etched into her skin like a marked grave.
She said her parents did it to her the first time. That means she had to be related to the King.
"You should come home," his mother said, pulling his attention back. "Even if just for a few days. We need you."
"I can't. Not until I find something," he said, the edge in his tone sharper than intended.
"We've found nothing, Luca," she snapped, then softened, defeated. "They've erased every trace of her."
A silence settled. Heavy.
Then she added quietly, "Everyone's scared, but no one's saying it out loud. Not your father. Not the men. But they know. If this can happen to Thea—it can happen to any of us."
He clenched his jaw, the rage simmering beneath the calm. "I'll find her."
"I don't doubt that," she said. "But if something happens to you too..."
She trailed off. Couldn't finish the thought.
"Give me an update," he said, shifting the conversation. He wasn't ready to drown in that emotion.
His mother exhaled slowly. "Business is strong. The capos have calmed down. There's been talk—real talk—about forming a permanent alliance with the King. Whoever he is... the families are realizing he's not a threat to them. He's profitable."
He turned to glance at Kaia again.
If only they knew who was really pulling the strings. Not the King, just Kaia.
"I'm surprised Dad hasn't tried to block it," Luca muttered.
"He doesn't care anymore. Not after Thea." Her voice was small. "He just wants his daughter back."
