One Year Later -Sicily

The hills of Sicily were gold in the afternoon light, sun-drenched and lazy. The breeze carried the scent of olives and rosemary, and the villa at the top of the slope basked in the hush of summer. All was peaceful—quiet in a way it hadn't been for years.

Inside the Romano estate, laughter echoed through the stone kitchen.

Aria sat sideways in Luca's lap, his arm draped loosely around her waist as if she might disappear again. She was barefoot in a white linen slip dress, legs swinging gently off the edge of his thigh. Her platinum hair was braided loosely down her back, catching sunlight in silver strands. Her eyes were soft but alert, watchful in a way that had never left her. There were faint smile lines at the corners of her lips now, subtle traces of a life finally lived.

In one hand, she held a small leather notebook, flipping it idly. The other rested over Luca's chest, fingers occasionally brushing the fabric of his black T-shirt like she needed to remind herself he was real.

He sipped espresso with his free hand, not taking his eyes off her—like she was still the most dangerous and beautiful thing he'd ever seen. Because to him, she always would be.

He pressed a kiss to her where the neckline of her dress dipped, over the hill of her breast. He inhaled her perfume, eyes closing as he kept kissing her neck, tongue tracing and teasing.

Aria tilted her head. "Okay, so let's settle this. What am I calling myself now?"

Luca blinked. "I thought we already did."

"No, you said you didn't care. That's not the same thing. It's been a year since the wedding and we still haven't figured it out."

"I don't care. You could be Aria Romano-Xanthos-King-Sylvaine-Goddess-of-Death and I'd still call you my wife."

She smirked. "You're stalling."

He smirked back. "Fine. What are the options again?"

She held up the page and started listing them off with mock seriousness:

"Aria Sylvaine King-Romano-Xanthos... which sounds like a law firm."

"Aria Sylvaine King-Xanthos... mysterious, but maybe too obvious."

"King-Romano. I don't think it flows well."

"Romano-King. Bit more traditional."

"Xanthos-King. Sounds like a princess married a warlord."

Luca raised a brow. "Wasn't that basically what happened?"

Aria grinned. "Touché."

He put his chin on her shoulder, placed his hands on either side of her hips, and leaned in until their noses nearly touched.
