Single, but not alone

God gave you His Spirit

And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being. - Genesis 2:7 (NKJV)

The beauty of singleness is that we have the best opportunity to know God in depth. God gave us His Spirit. The bible says, 'Man became a living being.' Only after God breathed into man did man become alive.

It is the spirit that gives us life

The Spirit of God has made me,
And the breath of the Almighty gives me life. - Job 33:4 (NKJV)

We cannot do without the spirit of God. You might think because you have been living all these years without knowing Jesus and thinking, 'what is he talking about? I am alive!' But I am talking about being alive in the spirit. Perhaps You need to know who you are. You are a spirit, you have a soul and you live in a body. That's who we all are. The body is just a package that contains us. The real you is a spiritual being. If the real you were some body, don't you think that God would have a body?

 Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify[] you completely; and may your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. - 1 Thessalonians 5:23 (NKJV)

God made us as spiritual beings that have a soul - your will, your emotions and your thoughts. We have a body that contains the spirit. The body is just a container. It's amazing that we spend so many hours building our bodies and making ourselves look pretty, which is not wrong. It's a good thing. But we shouldn't become so obsessed with how we look that we forget about God. God's Spirit makes us alive. Without the breath of God, we are just dead and dead to all the things of God. It is the spirit of God that gives us understanding. 

God's Spirit gives us understanding 

But there is a spirit in man,
And the breath of the Almighty gives him understanding. - Job 32:8 (NKJV)

There is a spirit of understanding that the Holy Spirit of God gives to everybody that desires His Spirit. Why is it important to understand the things of God? Because, without understanding, we malfunction. We now know that we are made in the image of God, but it takes the Spirit of understanding to make alive the revelation we learned. 

If you do not understand your purpose, your identity and the importance of being connected to God, how can you function in a godly relationship? Singleness is the key to success in every relationship you will ever have, including the one you have with God. God cleanses you and purifies you as a single man. 

Warring in the spirit 

Then Jacob was left alone; and a Man wrestled with him until the []breaking of day.  Now when He saw that He did not prevail against him, He []touched the socket of his hip; and the socket of Jacob's hip was out of joint as He wrestled with him.  And He said, "Let Me go, for the day breaks."But he said, "I will not let You go unless You bless me!"So He said to him, "What is your name?"He said, "Jacob." And He said, "Your name shall no longer be called Jacob, but []Israel; for you have struggled with God and with men, and have prevailed." - Genesis 32:24-28 (NKJV)

We need to value the gift of singleness. Jacob had to be left alone. Do you know what happened? There was no game after this. Ladies and gentlemen, sin is not a game. Being unrighteous is a serious thing. God does not like unrighteousness. He actually hates it. He loves righteousness. He loves righteousness so much that He had to send Jesus Christ; His beloved son to reconcile us back to Him. 

Now back to Jacob. 

Jacob was at war with a man. It was not a game. It was a wrestling match between Jacob and this man. John Cena and Randy Orton. If you have never seen WWE matches, I am very sorry. Jacob had to war in the spirit before He could change and start to function in the purpose that God predestined for him to walk in.

We can only change our bad attitudes and all these addictions that we cling onto in the state of singleness. Mama once told me that marriage only manifests the real you. Beyond the beautiful eye lashes and nice hair that our sisters(Girls) wear and beyond the six pack that the brothers(guys) have is a real person. The real thing is the spirit man who lives in that massive body. 

In our state of singleness, we learn to fight for righteousness and to follow after the things of God. God secures us in our state of singleness. Looking for security in a relationship, sets you and your partner to fail. There is some form of solidarity in relationships. There should be. However, you need to be secure  in God first. Know who you are and whose you are. 

So after Jacob wars with this man, he receives a new name. What name do people call you? Perhaps it's a bad name and you might think you will never change. But no! This book is all about that. It's about second chances. Fresh starts. And a whole lot of singleness. I mean, a whole load. Jesus can change us. He can change you. The spirit of God gives us new names as we yield more to Him. 

Find out who you are and why God made you the way you are before you get into a serious relationship. You cannot know who you are without knowing God. Don't rush into it. Take your time and learn to love God as you learn to love yourself.
