Two months later.
I was settling into my new job quite well. I don't have to wear uniform or anything which I'm glad about because I've always hated uniforms. My main responsibilities are to keep the boys entertained whilst Sam is working and make sure they don't cause any trouble. Speaking of trouble, I heard yelling from the bedroom so I thought I'd better go and investigate what was going on.
"Get off me or I'll tell Ella!" Mickey shouted.
"What's she gonna do? She's not our mum! Mum's dead remember!" Mason argued back.
"I hate you, you're the worst brother EVER! I never want to speak to you again!" Mickey screamed at Mason.
"You've got no choice you stupid baby! We live together in the same house!" Mason yelled at Mickey, pushing him over.
"Doesn't mean I have to speak to you!" Mickey argued, spitting at Mason.
"Woah boys, what's going on? What's all the yelling about? Why is there spit on the floor as well?" I asked, trying to diffuse the situation.
"Mickey did.." Mason started to tell me.
"Mason said.." Mickey interrupted him.
I don't care who started it, one of you tell me what happened please?" I asked them both calmly.
"Nothing to do with you, you're not our mum so keep your nose out!" Mickey argued.
"Don't speak to her like that you idiot!" Mason shouted at Mickey, slapping him on the head.
"Shut your mouth you stupid little Ella's boy!" Mickey shouted back at Mason.
"First of all, Mickey, I'm aware I'm not your mum and I'm not trying to take her place, nor would I want to. Secondly, don't shout at your brother like that and be disrespectful towards him. Mason also don't hit your brother because that's not very nice behaviour. If neither of you are willing to tell me what caused you to fall out, I think you two need to stay in separate rooms until you both cool down and apologise to each other. Mickey, you stay in the bedroom, Mason you come and sit in the living room with me." I told them, trying to reason with them but I didn't know what else to do.
"That's not very nice behaviour." Mickey argued, mimicking me.I walked out of the room, trying not to laugh and I decided to text Sam. I hated bothering him when he's working but I was at my wits end and didn't know what else to do.
"Sam, the boys just had a fight. Something about their mum. I didn't catch the whole thing because I was making lunch for them but I walked in and they were yelling at each other. I've separated them into different rooms so I'll keep an eye on them." I texted him.
He replied a few minutes later. "It's coming up to the anniversary of her death. It's almost six years ago so the twins are soon to be eight years old. They don't really remember her so I don't understand why they're getting so agitated but I guess she was their mother. I need to get back to work but can we talk about this at home?" He replied back.
"Yes of course, sorry to disturb you." I messaged back, throwing my phone on the sofa."Ella? Who's that man on your phone? Is it your boyfriend?" Mason asked me inquisitively.
"What man?" I replied, not really hearing what he'd said.
"The man on your wallpaper on your phone." He replied, clearly curious as to how I'd answer.
"Oh him, he's someone special to me. He's my dad." I replied sadly, trying not to cry.
"Is he..?" Mason asked me, although I had a feeling he knew the answer.
"Yes Mason, he's dead." I replied, almost crying.
