Everyone stood up and began talking with Bella. Esme and Alice both gave her a hug. Emmett clapped her on the back, and gave a loud belly laugh at her almost falling over. Edward was admiring his girlfriend, and his pure unadulterated love created a warm, fuzzy feeling in the pit of my stomach.

They continued on with their small talk and bantering as Alice took pictures. I stayed as far away as possible without being considered rude. I tried to listen to my family's chatter and pay attention, but it was very difficult. I couldn't keep my thirst in check, project calming waves, and listen at the same time. So I focused my energy on what was most important.

Alice began forcing Bella to open her gifts. She carefully unwrapped the small box containing the music Edward had composed for her. Her wide smile brightened the room. Edward gave her a peck on the cheek and a wave of strong admiration washed over me.

"Thanks," Bella said in embarrassment.

I knew she was happy with her gift as her emotions were ecstatic, but she had a hard time accepting gifts. I understood that, I had a hard time with people giving me things too. Although probably for different reasons, she was simply unselfish in nature, but I on the other hand didn't want to owe people things.

Emmett handed her an empty box. She was obviously confused at that. They discussed the car radio Emmett, Rosalie, and I had gotten her. Emmett poked fun at her rickety old truck and, Bella got defensive. I smiled slightly, their playfulness reminded me of siblings.

After her playful discussion with Emmett she thanked us, and I gave her a nod. I didn't dare speak, my throat ached and I considered leaving for a moment to compose myself. I decided against it, so I wouldn't make Bella uncomfortable. I also wanted to prove I could handle myself, even though I would never admit to that out loud.

Bella began unwrapping the last present, the one from Esme and Carlisle. The noise of paper tearing skin sounded in my ears. A single drop of blood hit the floor with a quiet thud. My throat was engulfed in a blazing inferno. I felt myself slipping. Time almost seemed as if it had slowed down. I tried to remain in control, but I was quickly overtook with blood lust. My inner monster took control and I lost it.

I sprung at my prey, but the enemy shoved her into the wall. He ran at me quickly, but not quickly enough. I was thirsty and I wouldn't let him get in the way of my meal. I jumped over him as he came at me in an attempt to stike. I quickly turned around and punched him as hard as I could. He flew into the rest of his coven knocking some of them into the wall with a thud. There was no time to waste, I had to drain my meal and flee or I would surely be overtaken by the enemy. I pounced on my prey and felt my teeth pierce her neck. Her delicious, warm blood slithered down my throat. She wiggled and screamed, but it was futile against me. The enemy vampire, knocked me off my meal and tackled me to the ground.

He punched my face and held me down. Before I could get the strength to escape he bit down on my neck. I yelped out in pain. This was a sign of dominance and I knew I must have come into his territory, I stopped struggling. The burning venom in my neck caused tears to come to my eyes. Two members of his coven grabbed my arms and dragged me outside, while a third got in my face and said something. I ignored her. I was terrified that I'd be executed for feeding on their land.

"Jasper! Jasper! Look at me!" The little one was panicked, but I couldn't understand why. "Jasper it's okay, love. Come back Jasper!" I wasn't sure who this Jasper was, nor why she wanted to find him so badly.

"Jasper honey, it's okay look at me!" I looked at her in confusion. Was she talking to me? She continued to shout that name, until I realised... I'm Jasper.

I dropped down to my knees in the damp grass. I couldn't believe what I had just done. I had just made the biggest mistake of my life. I was a monster.

"Jasper! Speak to me honey!" She pleaded. She kneeled down next to me her face filled with concern.

I held back a sob, and I began to tremble. I was terrified of what I had just done. "I'm a monster Alice," I whispered.

"No, no, no honey its okay!" Tears began to roll down her face, "Everything will be fine!"

"I'm sorry Alice. I don't deserve to live. I'm a monster. I'm sorry I failed you." She wrapped her arms around me and let out roaring sobs.

"No, n-no its okay." She stuttered. I continued to tremble. I was going to die, there was no way around it. Edward was going to kill me, and I thoroughly deserved it.

Edward's POV

My Bella lay helpless on the floor. Damn that Jasper. I will kill him if it's the last thing I do. Carlisle's thoughts were going too fast for me to comprehend and Esme had left just moments ago. He promised me he was under control. Why couldn't he control himself? I could never forgive him for this.

"Son! You have to get the venom out, now!" Carlisle yelled.

I froze in place memories flooded my mind from when Bella had been attacked by James. I remembered having to suck out the venom, and I froze at that thought unable to move as fear overtook me.

"It's spreading son, you have to get it out."

I couldn't do that again, I wasn't strong enough. Bella's screamed out in pain snapping me out of my frozen state. Tears rolled down my cheeks. I leaned over her neck and fearfully began to suck out the venom. It was more difficult than the last time; I wasn't sure why. The venom wouldn't budge and I was sucking out too much blood. What if I couldn't save her? What should I do?

I struggled more with the aggressive tug of war. The venom had spread too far. It was over. I continued in vain. I was most likely just making it worse, but I couldn't give up. I had to save my Bella! I felt a hand tug on my shoulder. I sat up shocked at my father's touch. This couldn't be happening.

"It's too late, son," He said in a comforting tone but it was tinged with sorrow.

"No!" I yelled and venom tears ran down my face. I collapsed and hid my face in my mate's hair, sobbing uncontrollably. My father rubbed up and down my back trying to calm me down.

This couldn't be happening. Jasper attacked my mate and stole her soul away from her. She didn't even have a choice. What if later she resented being a monster, like I did. She had so many more human things to do. I couldn't believe that Jasper, my own brother, had stolen her life away. How could Jasper betray me so badly?

I sat there for what felt like an eternity sobbing over my unconscious mate. I sat up and looked down at my Bella. Her face was twisted in pain, and it made me feel nauseous. My father tapped me on the back to get my attention.

"Let's move her upstairs into your room."

I stood above my mate helplessly. She was bandaged all over her arms. Her neck held another bandage where the bite was and there were deep bruises in the shape of fingertips on her left shoulder. Her wounds must have been stitched and wrapped by Carlisle while I was crying. I had been too busy to notice. She lay there moaning and grunting in pain. I couldn't stand seeing her like this. Jasper was a monster, and he had to be destroyed.

We set Bella down on the couch in my room. As soon as she was laying comfortably, I ran downstairs in search of the bastard who did this to her.
