Bones
Finally, everyone is piled into Tatum's car. I was in the front seat with Tatum at the driver, Angel, Reese and Damien all squeezing in the back. I feel awful for being the smallest and not sitting in the back middle seat (as that's where the littlest always sit), but at the same time I don't want to get Reese and Damien tangled in my tubes and shit.
Tatum reaches over, buckling me in with a warm smile. I hear Reese and Damien dispute in the back as the tried to fasten their own seat belts, causing me to chuckle and shake my head.
"Are we stopping for snacks?-" Reese asked between arguing with Damien.
"Yeah sure.." Tatum responds as he turns the key, his 12 year old Jeep sputtering as it started up "We can stop at the corner store as we hit the highway.".
The car leaves the driveway and onto the road. Our adventure has finally begun.
~~~~~~~~~~~
It's only an hour into the drive, and everyone is already getting antsy. Luckily, we were now arriving at the corner store. Tatum parks the car by one of the gas pumps.
"Alright, I'm going to fill the her up with gas, you four can go in and find some snacks." Tatum talks to his car like it's his girlfriend, and It's honestly kinda disturbing. He gets out of the seat, walking over to the fuel dispenser and removing it from the pump.
Angel makes her way to my door, opening it as I carefully unbuckle my seat belt, making sure I don't injure myself in some stupid way. That was my fear- somehow injuring myself and spending my last two days stuck back in the hell walls of the hospital, in a coma or something like that.
Damien comes over and helps me out of the car, throwing one of my arms over his shoulders so I can support my weight on him. There's a wheelchair shoved in the trunk of the car, but I didn't really want to go through the troubles of squeezing it back in when were only going to be out of the car for a few minutes. Reese holds the door open with their foot as Damien helps me up onto the curb and into the store. Whiffs of hot dogs and cleaning supplies hits me as I enter. Even though it smelt gross and cheap, I loved it over the smell of the latex and metal.
"Alright, we should stock up for the trip" Angel speaks as she walks up beside Damien and I. Damien nods response, and I point towards the drink section,Damien now carefully walking in that direction. I change my view over to the cashier, who is giving me a strange look as Damien holds onto me. I guess I'm going have to get used to this- I am technically crippled after all. I feel sad for people who are crippled and aren't about to die in two days- the stares are awkward and harsh.
As I took my eyes off of the cashier, Damien was switching me over to Angel, as he did a goofy, enthusiastic waddle over to the energy drinks.
"Fuck yeah Monster!" He jumps up and down as he pulls open the fridge door.
"Don't you have like..ADHD or something?" I laugh as I see Damien grab at least 4 different types of Monsters from the fridge
"Yep!"
"Bro, your gonna die in the car if you drink those" Reese gave their stern mother look to Damien. Those two argued so much, you could assume they were a married couple (even though Angel and Reese were actually dating).
Damien shrugged "Fuck it man." he held the Monster drinks close to him as he put his focus on me "Yo BB, what do you want to drink?"
I glance over at the Redbull display. I've had energy drinks before (never Redbull), but I was told I couldn't drink them after I was diagnosed with the cancer. I really couldn't give a shit anymore though.
"Redbull"
"You sure dude?"
"More sure than your mom."
We still act like elementary school kids..
Which is why Damien and I almost failed our classes numerous of times.
Damien snorted at my joke as he grabbed a Redbull can from the display and handed it to me. Reese comes back to the group holding dill pickle and ketchup chips. Tatum is now coming into the store, making his way over to the group.
"uhhh guys.."
all of our eyes look at Tatum
"The car isn't starting up.".
