I watched Bones smile as Damien took him inside the store, hearing everyone's cheerful chattering, until the shop door closed behind them. I sigh in relief, just glad that Bones was happy for once. I watch the numbers go up on the machine as I hold the trigger back so gas can go into the car. I make sure I don't fill up the tank all the way. This car is so old any little dumb thing could make it crash, like filling up the tank to full (as I figured out one day on my way to visit B after a rough day of work..that was a shitty day).
I really don't think the car will shut down anytime soon though. I hope it doesn't. Not now.
I fill the tank three quarters of the way full before removing the guzzle and placed it back into the machine. I notice as someone pulled up behind me, wanting to use the station. I decide to do the polite thing and pull the car up into a parking spot. I get into the driver seat, turning the key and stepping on the breaks. The Jeep sputters as usual, but roars before shutting off again. I get a bit concerned, trying two more times until even turning the key wouldn't turn it on.
I just fucking jinxed it didn't I.
