  "On the first day, of the first month in each and every year on the planet Taq, nobody leaves. The only people who leave disappear and are never seen or heard from again. The only thing we've seen return is a rusty, dented, severely damaged bus. It left brand new. Any questions?"

The smiling 7th grade teacher for Taq's biggest school looked around at her class."Yes Madeline?"

"Is this story even real?" a young Canish-Human girl asked, twitching her antenna. "I mean, it sounds like you're just trying to scare us."

"I'm not trying to scare you. It's just a warning I am bound by Taqin law to tell all of you. But still, remember, it's dangerous. And no one has ever come back." Miss Sharla said in a grave tone of voice.

And that gave Maddie an idea.

~~~
"Hey Seamus. Wake up."
Seamus, a tall, skinny human boy, and Maddie's best friend, slowly opened his brown eyes to see an alien with pale yellow skin, pure black eyes and two twitching antennas standing at the foot of his bed. "Madeline!? What are you doing here?! It's the middle of the night!" he yelped, jolting upwards.
"One, yes, it's me. Two, I'm here because I have an idea." Maddie whispered, as to not be heard.
"Me too. It's called going back to sleep, and having this be a nightmare." Seamus grouched.
"Happy new year, Seamus." Maddie said slyly.
"Nooooooo! I can't send you home!" he wailed.
"Not alone at least." Maddie grinned.
~~~

"I cannot believe you roped me into this." Seamus said, "It's freezing out here! I think that you might have just doomed us to death, by pneumonia or whatever kills everything today."

Madeline and Seamus were prowling the woods, looking for the thing causing this day's panic.

"Um, Seamus? Is that-" Maddie started.

"I think so." Seamus replied, his eyebrows creased with worry, "We should get out of here!"

In front of the children, there lay a rusty, broken bus. The bus smelled of algae and rotten fish. "C'mon slowpoke, this antique isn't going to explore itself!" Maddie shouted from inside the bus.

Seamus groaned, but a second later, followed suit. "What are we even going to do if we find this thing? Scream and yell for help? No one will hear us!" Seamus rambled.

Then all of a sudden, from the mouth of the bus, came a loud, primitive roar. "GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOUUUUUUUUUUURRRRRRRR!"

"I suggest we scram." Seamus whispered.

"I agree." Maddie added.

And with that the children scurried off in the direction of the entrance. Foolish children. While they slowly crept back to the entrance, they saw the bringer of grief. It had sunken yellow eyes, flipper-like hands and feet, and puke-ish green skin. It saw them, and started running at Seamus and Madeline with the desperation of a dying man, faster than a cheetah. They tried to run, to get away, but they weren't fast enough. And then Madeline's vision all went black, but not before she saw Seamus, her supposed best friend, scratching the fish-monster behind the ear.
