Unnecessary Complication

Sit Tight

Kevin POV
After hanging up the phone. I got up from the table and said, "Ma I'm sorry I have to leave."
"Kev you just go here. You haven't even eaten yet."
"I know Ma I got to go."
"Fine let me make you a plate."
I took the plate and I got in the truck and drove to the location. I pulled up to the bus stop. I rolled down the window where I saw Vanessa sitting there in the cold holding a small child while another child was sitting next to her. They got into the truck. I wanted to ask her what happened but instead, I kept quiet. I drove to my house to open the garage and parked the truck. I helped Vanessa bring kids inside. I brought them upstairs to the guest bedroom and I laid the little boy on the bed. I left the room and grabbed a shirt and sweatpants out of a laundry basket. I returned to the room and I told Vanessa she could clean up and change then come downstairs so we could talk.  I stood at the kitchen island waiting for Vanessa to come down. Then I saw walking toward me, her hair was down covering her face.
Kevin, "Vanessa what happened."
Vanessa, "Everything just got out of control."
I moved her hair  from her face which revealed bruises and black eye.
"Jose did this to you. Vanessa, don't even think about protecting him."
Vanessa, "It wasn't Jose. It was Javier."
I listened as she told me everything that happened. 
Kevin, "So Jose and Darius are dead."
Vanessa, "Yeah Javier shot him."
Kevin, "Why didn't he kill you."
Vanessa, "Javier doesn't have the balls to kill a woman. So he had someone else do it."
Kevin, "Okay So how did you get away."
Vanessa, "I killed him."
Kevin "Okay well you were protecting yourself."
I grabbed my phone.
Vanessa,"What are you doing Kevin."
Kevin, "I'm called Voight."
Vanessa, "Waiting No. You can't call Voight."
I put my hands on her shoulders and said, "Look I know you are scared, but I have your back and Voight will have your back he will know what to do."
She nodded and I called Voight."He's on his way."
I sat on the stroll at the island and watched her as she paced up and down while she was mumbling to herself. "Vanessa, sit you are going to put a hole in my floor."
Then there was a knock at the door which made her jump. "It's just Voight."
Kevin,"Boss."
Voight,"Rojas, tell me everything."
Vanessa,"Javier shot Jose and Darius and he tried to have me killed. Javier kept talking about family and loyalty and how those things were important."
Voight,"Do you know where the bodies are or where we can find the rest of his drugs?"
Vanessa,"Uhm I'm sure by now he's buried the bodies at the Pine Barrens and as for the drugs they are at the bar."
Kevin,"Sarge the bar wasn't searched?" 
Vanessa,"The drugs are being kept in the wine cellar that's in Javier's office. There is a fake bookshelf in the office. It's actually the door behind that door you will find the drugs."
Voight,"Excuse me, let me call the team in."
Vanessa,"Voight there more."
Voight,"Tell me Rojas."
Vanessa,"In order for me to get away I had to strangulate the driver. I should have just got into the SUV and drove away but I shot him, I shot him three times. He was unarmed. I can't go to jail and leave my kids behind."
Voight,"It won't come that. Vanessa we'll take it from here. I have to go. Atwater walk with me"
Kevin,"Sarge do need you to work this case tonight."
Voight,"Atwater no I need you here I know Rojas can protect herself but there is nothing wrong with back up, I will be back tomorrow."
I walked into the kitchen and said to her "Let me get something for your eye. Here"
Vanessa, "Frozen peas?"
Kevin,"Yeah it will help with the swelling . Are you hungry?"
She nodded as I warmed up the plate of food my mom made. "Here."
Vanessa, "Kevin did you eat."
Kevin,"Nah I'm going make something you eat."
Vanessa,"We can share."
I grabbed two fork we sat and quietly shared the plate of food. After Vanessa went upstairs to bed while I cleaned up the kitchen, then I checked all the doors and when to bed.
Next Morning
I got up at my usual time of 7:30pm it was Saturday Morning I went downstairs straight into the kitchen. Vanessa and the kids were still sleeping. So I decided to start to make breakfast, then I heard little footsteps. I turned around and there was a little boy standing in my kitchen.
Kevin,"Good Morning little man."
"Morning."
Kevin,"Are you hungry?"
He nodded, then he said,"I need to use the bathroom first." 
I showed him the bathroom and I gave him a toothbrush and toothpaste.
When he was finished he came out and sat at the kitchen counter.
Kevin,"Here are eggs, chocolate chip pancakes with syrup and strawberry."
"Thank You."
Kevin,"Your welcome would you like apple or orange juice."
"Apple Juice."
Kevin,"Do you remember me? I met you at you momma's work."
"Yeah I remember. Are you my Momma's friend."
Kevin," Yes my name is Kevin."
"My name is Elliot James Rojas, I'm 5 you could call me EJ."
Kevin, "Ok EJ my full name is Kevin James Atwater."
EJ,"We have the same middle name."
Kevin,"Yeah that cool."
We continued to eat, then I heard my front door open. Walking into the kitchen.
Kevin,"Morning Ma."
"Good Morning Kev, Oh hi Sweetheart. Kev, can we talk."
Kevin,"Sure. I will be right back EJ."
"Where did that kid come from. What happened last night."
Before I could say anything Vanessa came downstairs holding a little curly hair boy. 
Vanessa,"Morning."
She passed my mother and I and went into the kitchen. My mother followed her into the kitchen and I walked behind. 
Vanessa,"Good Morning my love."
EJ,"Mama,  Kevin made pancakes and eggs."
Vanessa,"I see."
Vanessa put the other little boy down to sit next to EJ and made him a plate. Then my mother said,"Excuse me, can we speak in the living room."
Vanessa nodded as we walked into the living room.
"I'm Momma Patsy, Kevin is my son. I suspected that those two beautiful boys are your."
Vanessa,"Yes."
Patsy,"So my next question are you sleeping with my son."
Kevin,"Ma! You don't have to answer that."
Vanessa,"It's okay, I'm not sleeping with Kevin."
Patsy, "Okay now this is a serious question did Kevin give you that black eye. Because Kevin I will hurt you."
Vanessa,"No!No! Kevin didn't hit me, your son has been an absolute gentleman. I was working undercover and this happened. I'm sorry I totally forgot to introduce myself. I'm Vanessa Rojas."
Patsy,"Nice to meet Vanessa. Kevin I expected you to bring her and the boys over for Sunday dinner."
Vanessa,"That's not necessary."
Patsy,"Kevin knows, Sunday dinner is mandatory. I insist. "
Kevin,"Bye Ma."
Patsy,"Kevin bring my plate on Sunday."
Kevin,"Yes Ma."
My mother left Vanessa, the boys and I finished up breakfast. She introduced me to her other son whose name is Zander Xavier Rojas. Breakfast was over, boys watched cartoon Vanessa and I cleaned the kitchen. Then there was a knock on the door. I opened the door and it was Voight.
Kevin,"Sarge, would like some coffee."
Voight,"Sure, Last night we raided Javier's bar. We seized 55 kilos of coke that Javier stored in the walls, bucket of money and several guns. We arrested everyone at the bar."
Vanessa, "Did you get Javier."
Voight,"Yes we had enough evidence to get a warrant for his arrest. He is sitting locked up."
Kevin,"That's good."
Voight,"Vanessa I need you to sit tight."
Voight finished his coffee and left.
Vanessa walked over to the door.
Kevin,"Where are you going Vanessa."
Vanessa,"Out."
I walked over to the door and said,"Vanessa, Voight said to sit tight. Which means stay here."
Vanessa,"Kevin, Javier is locked up. I need to go to my apartment and to get clothes, my kids are still running around in their pajamas."
Kevin,"Well Vanessa I get it but you are not going anywhere sorry."
Vanessa,"Kevin."
Kevin,"Vanessa sit, it's for your own good."
Vanessa,"There is no way I'm going Sunday dinner with your sweat pants that keep falling off my waist and your shirt."
Kevin,"I will figure it out. Beside you are small and the boys will be fine. I need to make a phone call."
On the phone," She likes a small or median. She is a size 7.5 in shoe. Okay the boys are 5 and 3."
A few hours passed and the boys were upstairs taking a nap while Vanessa and I were sitting on the couch then my doorbell rang.
Kevin,"Did you get it."
"Yeah."
Kevin,"Come in."
We walked into the living room and EJ came downstairs and he was sitting next to his mom.
Kevin,"Vanessa this Detective Hailey Upton."
Hailey,"Hi Vanessa, it's just Hailey."
Vanessa,"Nice to meet you.This is EJ"
Kevin,"Vanessa here this is clothes for you and the boys. Hailey can you stay here. I need to run an errand."
Vanessa, "Kevin, I don't need a babysitter."
Kevin,"Great, Hailey can you stay."
Hailey,"Sure not a problem."
Vanessa,"Kevin."
Kevin,"Bye EJ."
