Florence Barns has always loved mysteries , though no one , maybe including herself , has ever been able to pinpoint why.
Perhaps it began with the colorful stack of Scooby Doo dvds she found at a garage sale in grade school— discs she had worn nearly to their demise while the cable at her house was out. Maybe that's the catalyst , the silly sort of joy the quest of a rag-tag group of teens and their beat up Mystery Machine gave her. Not to mention the connections she could easily draw between MYSTERY INC and her own close knit friend group , the Pogues.
Though , maybe it has more to do with growing up in a town as small as Kildare , and being the sort of person who can and will get along with just about anyone. Florence knows everything there is to know about the citizens— leaving her with a itching impatience when she comes upon an unanswered question , a subconscious need to draw connections in twine and come to concrete conclusions.
Then there's her mother— arrested when Florence was fourteen after a lifetime of drug habits and abuse , wrapped tightly in secrecy from the rest of the community. Perhaps it was this chain of events that bestows Flo with her uncanny observational skills. After all , with a mother like hers , you get good at sneaking around and picking up on incremental changes.
No matter the reason , the fact remains, Florence Barns adores mysteries. Sherlock Holmes , and Nancy Drew , Encyclopedia Brown and Miss Marple— and yes , Mystery Inc.
She loves the act of digging deeper into what seemed to be elementary— hunting for connections between obscure details and pouring hours over books and websites with intentions of research. She loves the feeling of everything coming together , of snapping the final puzzle piece in to reveal that the picture was more intricate than she could have imagined. And perhaps most of all she loves the reminder that no matter how subverted her expectations may become , everything , everything has an explanation of some sort.
