You sighed and thought about it. It was Ben’s birthday, and you haven’t seen Emily and Annie in a while, and you loved Sam’s siblings. Even if Sam had gotten his siblings on some sort of plan, you didn’t care, you would deal with Sam when it came up but you might as well join the family for Ben’s birthday. “Okay, I’ll come,” You said.
Ben’s face lit up, “Really?”
“It’s your birthday, I might as well,” You answered.
“Will you do me one more favor?” Ben asked and glaring at his sister, mentally telling her to shut up, Emily’s eyes looked confused and somewhat nervous.
“What?”
“Be my date?” Ben asked quickly.
“I, uh,” You took a deep breath and gave him a little smile. “Sure, why not.”
Ben’s smile turned into a wide grin and he moved in to hug you, his arms wrapped around your shoulders and gave you a quick squeeze before pulling away. “Okay, so the dinner starts at 7:30 and everyone is getting there at 7.” Ben told you.
You glanced at Emily and saw her smiling at you, you took a deep breath and smiled back at her, “I’ll see you guys then,”
The next night you found yourself at Sam’s door, you could hear chatter coming from the inside and you wondered if you were doing the right thing. You thought it over in your head, you were here for Ben, your ex-boyfriends older brothers, birthday dinner. As Ben’s date. A part of you knew that when Sam would get angry, or upset, when he found out you were going as Ben’s date and not there for Sam, but you couldn’t bring yourself to really care.
You played with your pretty long curls and pulled on the hemline of your white lace dress, the sleeves coming down to your forearm, you took a step closer to the door in your skin colored pumps and knocked on the door. The butterflies just wouldn’t settle in your stomach, you felt like you could barely breathe, you had just gotten a decent amount of air in your lungs when the door opened and Ben stood there in a suit and a smile. “Hey, Y/N,”
“Hi, Ben,” You gave him a nervous smile and crossed through the threshold after Ben stepped aside and let you make your way in. Once you were inside the house he pulled you into a hug and you sighed, Ben pulled away and glanced down at you.
“Are you alright?” Ben asked, slipping his hand around your middle back and stepping aside so you could see the family members and smile at them. Some of them you remembered from Mrs. Wilkinson’s birthday party, a couple months back, and some you didn’t.
You smiled and waved at Sam’s uncle and then looked up at Ben, “Is this the right thing to do? Should I really be here?”
Ben glanced up from your eyes, up to roam the people in the room and then back at you, “I guess we’ll find out,”
Ben started to move towards the dining room, where the dinner would be, but you grabbed onto his forearm and didn’t move away. “Ben, wait, does Sam know I’m here?”
Ben’s eyes glimmered, “Well, he knows you’re coming but he doesn’t know you’re in the house,”
You smiled slightly and punched his arm, “That isn’t what I meant, you asshole.”
Ben laughed and cowered away after you punched his arm and rubbed the spot where your little spot barely made a dent in his perfectly pressed suit, “God, you hurt,”
