It was an unusually warm evening for a December in Brooklyn, and Steve and Bucky had just gotten themselves a pine tree for their small apartment. Steve wasn't keen on the idea but since it clearly made Bucky happy, he obliged.

That night, Steve was sitting in his usual spot on the couch, sketching their apartment under the warm light of an old lamp. While Bucky said he had an "errand" to run, but Steve wouldn't be surprised if he was with a woman. Bucky always was with a women, or women. But Steve? Well he wasn't considered incredibly handsome. He was a skinny, asthmatic kid who was...well he was in love with his best friend. His straight, extremely handsome, funny, and charming best friend. Steve had known he was in love with Bucky for years now, but didn't dare do anything about it. Worst thing, Bucky rejected him. Or someone would find out and he'd get thrown in jail, or beaten nearly to death. It was the 1930s. He just hoped one day the world would be more accepting.

About 15 minutes later, Bucky came back. He was beaming and was carrying something but refused to tell Steve what it was. After a few minutes of Steve whining and complaining about wanting to know, Bucky dragged him into the living room and there it was. A brand new record player, sitting on a small table near the couch.

"How...did you afford this?" They weren't rich, but they had enough to get by. "I took on a second job at nearby factory...and it's an early Christmas present. For you!" Bucky looked very pleased with himself, Steve wasn't. "A second job? You're already overworking yourself at your current one...and Buck, you didn't have to do all that for me." Steve wasn't angry, just concerned. "Of course I did, Stevie." Bucky had a fond look in his eyes, which was confusing Steve. But before he could inquire, Bucky put a record on and was grabbing Steves hands.

Up until the moment we said our first hello
Little did we know
Love was just a glance away
One embracing dance away
And ever since that night
We've been together
Lovers at first sight
In love forever

As the song on the record played softly in the background, Bucky had his arms around Steves waist. They often danced together around the apartment, singing lyrics. It was fun, they were usually laughing the entire time. Although this was different, it was tender, gentle, soft. Bucky had a look in his eyes that Steve never noticed before. "Buck?" It was almost a whisper, and Steve had his arms gently around Bucky's neck.

"Yeah Steve.." Before he could think, he did what he wanted to for years. He kissed Steve. His best friend, his best pal, his Steve. It was like everything he ever imagined, until he felt Steve tense up, and he pulled away. "Wait Steve what's wrong- I'm sorry about that I wasn't thinking and-" Before he could finish his sentence, Steve kissed him back. It wasn't hot or demanding, it felt like coming home. After all the years of pining, admiring, crushing on from afar, he finally knew Steve felt the same. When they pulled apart from eachother, Bucky had so many things he wanted to say, but he didn't wanna ramble so all he said was, "I love you Stevie. I. Love. You." Steve beamed. "Took ya long enough!" And they fell to the couch laughing, still holding eachother in their arms.

Because they would always have eachother, till the end of the line.
