My eyes follow his every move as he loiters in the alleyway, fishing the garbage cans.
It has been a few days that he was released, and I have been eager to find him secluded, so I can bury the shred of evidence he has against me. I don't know what it is, but there must be something, or else he wouldn't have threatened me.
Or am I being paranoid?
No, he definitely has something. A picture, a file, something. I just need to find out what before I kill him.
The grimy street is deserted, and there is no one around. It is the perfect opportunity to silence him forever.
I glide from the shadows and tip-toe to the entrance of the alleyway. He has not heard me. I am a silent predator, a serpent who is preparing to strike, with his fangs poised for action.
Like a coiled viper, I jump and tackle him to the ground, hold a knife to his neck.
The cans rattle around us, and I notice that I have knocked them down.
The noise.
"Quick!" I snarl. "Tell me what you have against me, you bloody bastard!"
He smiles and that makes me angry. I am breaking all protocol, but the circumstances are dire, so I slash against his cheek, where a red slit appears.
"TELL ME!"
My voice echoes in the alleyway, the dark, dingy alleyway. It gets carried in the wind and splits apart the night. I cannot stop myself.
With a strangled cry, I lift my hand and stab his chest. Stab it, over and over and over again, until his front is stained with red death.
"You bloody mutton-shunter," he spits, grinning ear-to-ear as the last remnants of life ebb away from his body. "You fell for it. Lousy pig."
My insides clench and I realise with horror what has happened. I stand up, the wind howling around me, and turn to the entrance, a bloody knife in my hand.
Holding a bag of garbage, in his white overalls, staring at me with horror, is Wallows.
