Compared to my old, depressed days, my life was finally falling into place.Well, specifically at school. I now had closest friends ever. Even though they were weird!
And the most juicy news of all, wait for it...Sam and I weren't officially a thing but it was like some sort of friends with benefits.
Yeah, I know. We'd make a perfect couple! What makes me like her even more was that, she always made me see the universe in a different way. In a way that I'm definitely sure no one has ever. She was one fun, crazy girl but what hooks me even more to her, was her feistiness. Just the way I like them.
And as for things at home, things were pretty damaged or even more like fucked!
Beth and Pops would abruptly quarrel to the extent that it would scare me sometimes. The last thing a teenager wants to see is their parents getting divorced or separated.
Calvin's attitude and behavior had also recently changed. He had become more secretive and jumpy most times. He literally carries his cold metal gun everywhere he goes and by that I mean even to the bathroom.
What alarms me the most is his addition. He normally smokes cigarettes four to five times a day, but these days it's been more than that to count.
Not to mention his appearance. He recently has a ghost face and bags under his eyes, he barely even smiles, he is always soggy and shaky.
It scares me seeing my brother whom I also take as a best friend, suffer of God knows what. Yesterday I went to his room and found him seated by the balcony with a cig between his lips.
"Hey!" - I took a seat abreast to him after receiving a small nod and a faint smile from him. - "I'm going out to Wonder's Waffle World, wanna tag?" - I asked pursing my lips into a thin line.
"I think I'll pass. I'm occupied!" - he mentioned sheepishly and falsely.
"Come on!" - I pushed his shoulder lightly in a playful manner. Before convincing him, -"I'll borrow you my baby!" - I referred to my skate knowing very well he wouldn't hesitate to loose such a rare opportunity from me. In was now or never for him.
From that statement, I swear I saw his face light up and his lips immediately rose to form a smile. Which I've missed to see. -"it would be my pleasure!" - he teased with a snicker. I told you people!
***
"Mhmm!" - he hummed. -"I can't believe I nearly disagreed to come here and miss this!" - he cried like a girl through every spoon that went in his mouth.
Wonder's Waffle World, has always been thee best in town. My father and I used to go there much often, after our car rides therapy. And we enjoyed it.
We would take a tour around the block listening to soft music, my type of music to be precise. Through small conversations and jokes here and there. Maybe that's another reason for us to be this close. We bonded a lot.
"So..." - he dragged wiggling his eyebrows.
"So?"- I questioned back.
"Are you ready?" - I smelled a lot of enthusiasm in his tone.
"Ready for what?"- I raised my brow while dipping spoon in my ice cream.
