The power of firsts

Asides from recommendations from reputable publications, the first words I read whenever I begin a new novel are the short, sweet phrases the author crafts to appreciate the entities that inspired the book—from the first word till the last sentence.

For this reason, I'm dedicating my debut novel, 'Imprisoned by Secrets' tomy firsts.

Change has always been one of my greatest fears. AlthoughI know better than anyone that evolution is essential for growth, myconservative background and anxiety makes it difficult for me to try new things. Thus, my firsts are special to me because they mark the dawn of a new age.

Amazingly, my firsts aren't always bizarre orearth-shattering. Sometimes, it can be something as silly as getting toeat a particular meal for the first time or even wearing a pretty new dress forthe first time. Regardless, I cherish those moments dearly.

They serve as a driving force for me to keep trying need things and also remind me that you can never truly enjoy the gift of life without exploring and taking risks.

Of all the 'firsts' I have ever experienced, my first love is my most cherished.

I don't cherish it because I harbor feelings of hope that perhaps things would change and we would be together forever (I just gagged at that thought).

I cherish it because it was the first time I gave my love unconditionally to another without fear or restraint. I can still remember sitting by my phone with sweaty palms and an unsteady heart, waiting to receive a call from the sweet soul that had captured my heart.

For years, I'd hoped my first love would be my only love. Thankfully, I was able to experience those beautiful heart-warming sensations over and over again with several people as I made my journey through life.

My first love will always have a special place in my heart, although time and friendship have forever converted those mushy feelings.

Thank you for taking some time to read through this short piece. After reading this, I hope you feel inspired to try new things and enjoy the thrill that comes with each new experience.

Yours Till Eternity and Beyond,

~MenteMelan
