Present day...
Beatrice slowly opened her eyes when she felt a tingly feeling close to her cheek. She smelt some sort of masculine cologne. It felt like someone was breathing on her face. She was very particular about her personal space so she felt irritated by how close the person was.
Later on, she was embarrassed to admit that she screamed very loudly. Beatrice wasn't a woman who expressed her fears vocally.
It was to be expected though.
When she passed out, she had dreamt about a long-buried memory where she had been staring into a particular pair of eyes. She woke up and she was still looking into the same brown eyes.
She wasn't supposed to be looking into that specific pair of eyes under any circumstance.
"She's finally awake. Her vocal cords seem to be working perfectly." The eyes seemed to wince at the sound of her scream. The owner of the eyes moved away from her.
When he did, the bright light that he had been shading from her face caused her to squint. When her eyes finally adjusted to the light, Beatrice was able to see that there were other people in the room apart from Ethan.
She saw her parents and her fiancé, Thomas. They were all looking a little dazed and uncomfortable. Beatrice felt uneasy seeing all of them in the same room.
When Ethan took his seat next to her, she quickly glanced around the room.
The five of them were sitting in a circle with a bright lamp hanging in their middle.
She also noticed that the four of them had some kind of silver choker around their necks which had green and blue lights blinking rapidly.
When she reached up, she felt the same warm choker on her neck. It resembled a dog's collar. It was slightly uncomfortable swallowing spit with it on. She touched the back then realized she couldn't take it off without inserting some kind of key into a tiny hole at the back.
When she glanced at Ethan again, she noticed his left eye was slightly discolored and swollen making him look dangerous and handsome in a thug-like manner. He was wearing a grey sweatshirt and joggers like he was supposed to be out for a morning jog.
Thomas looked completely dazed like when he'd drunk all of her father's brandy two months ago. He was wearing a black suit but his tie was missing along with one of his designer shoes. The rough look didn't suit him as well as it suited Ethan. He just looked lost.
Leila looked ruffled as well, which was a first. Her designer dress had a stain in the region of her left breast. She'd also managed to lose all her hairpins. She kept patting her hair down in a vain attempt to tame its chaotic appearance.
Her father was wearing a suit like he had been on his way to an important meeting. He was the only one who didn't look overly dazed. His eyes were processing everything. He scowled at his daughter.
Beatrice was still wearing her evening dress.
"What happened? Where are we?" Beatrice rubbed her sore eyes. It only made them ache more.
"I wish I knew." Ethan looked around the room. His eyes gave nothing away.
The room had high walls. There was no sign of a door anywhere.
"I guess we were all kidnapped." Her father said angrily. Getting kidnapped was not part of his agenda for the day.
"Kidnapped? How were you taken?" Beatrice couldn't help but ask her father. She couldn't really see anyone getting the better of him.
