Chapter 9 : Sunrise

Samantha’s POV

Wouldn’t I be lying if I say that I completely trust Sam?

I do trust him... as a friend, a best friend. Trusting him with my past doesn’t mean I’m giving trust to him about my heart. I’ve been betrayed before and I don’t want the same thing to happen again. I know from his look, Sam is inexpirience with relationship, but he’s willing to try and he actually really trying, than the fact that he’s okay with me want to take everything slowly really made me think. Maybe that’s all I need, maybe that’s the reason why I decided to let him try and just go with it.. maybe that’s the reason why I want to open my heart for the second chance in love.

  It’s 3 am now and my phone won’t stop ringing. Its been ringing for an hour and right now I’m in the starge where I would kill anyone who call me at this hour. Soon as I pick up my phone, Sam’s cheery voice attack my ears.

“ Sammy honey!! It took you an hour to answer my phone and you made us late! Now get up, quickly change, and gett down here! We gotta go now!” he hung up without any word before I could sk what he meant by we gotta go.. I mean it’s 3 freaking a.m in the morning! Of course its too early for a morning run, it’s also too early to watch Sam run in his neon green short shorts like last time. But in the end I got up and change my pijamas to black legging, white tank top and I put my favorite grey sweater. I grab my phone and wallet then put it in a small bag, then I went down and right after I open the door, Sam’s hands quickly grab mine and he pulled me to his car. He opened the passanger door for me and gesture for me to get in. After that he closed the door and run to the driver seat and the next thing I know, we’re on the road.

“ Aren’t you going to tell me where are you taking me at this hour?” he shook his head and smile

“ Well at least let me grab some coffee first! I can’t stand a day without coffee.” Again he shook his head, then  he stop the car and search for something in the back seat, then he has a plactic cup of coffee on his hand and he hand it to me.

“ Thanks” I said. He just smile and start driving again.

We have been driving for a while and my cup of coffee is empty now. I look at the watch and i said it was 3.45 am. I look over to Sam and his eyes glued to the road, he didn’t say a word since we step in the car. I don’t know what’s wrong with him and everytime I try to speak to him, he just smile. Something is really wrong with him.

Another 15 minutes passed and Sam still quiet and my eyes got heavy everytime I blink. Then a minute later I fall asleep.

I don’t know how long I’ve been sleeping, but all I know someone is poking my cheek and it really annoys me, so I open my eyes and Sam is smirking.

“ Wake up, we’re here.” He said. Wow.. he can talk!

“ You talk! I thought some weird alien took your voice. Or maybe those alien kidnapped the real Sam and you stole his body.” I start poking his cheek, nose, forehead and his arms.

“ If you missed my voice that much, all you had to do is start a conversation. Don’t need to use your silly alien kidnapping theory.” He said, I rolled my eyes and he pinched my cheek, making me pout.

“ Come on, I take you to this plascce not to spend it inside the car.” We both got out the car and I can see Griffith Park written on a sign. I look over to Sam and he’s smiling from ear to ear. I guess he love this place.

“ What are we doing here?”

“ Hiking, I want to show you the best place to watch sunrise. Come on” he grab my hand and interwine our fingers, I could’ve refuse it but I kinda like the feeling having his hands on mine.

“ But why sunrise? I think sunset is better.” I said.

“ I’ll tell you the reason why I brought you here soon as we arrive at my favorite spot. Now stop talking. You need all your breath to hike.” He said.

We were hiking in silent for about 15 minutes until Sam finally stop and drop the bagpack he carried.

“ Isn’t it beautiful?” he asked. His eyes showed amaze and happiness. I don’t know why but seeing his smile bought a smile to my face. He turn his face and his eyes caught mine... here comes the silly smirk.

“ Stop starring t me or you’ll fall in love with me” he laugh and I roll my eyes. “ On second thought I think I like the idea that you fall in love with me.” I hit his arms and he tried to runaway from me.

“ I won’t be the one who falls first. It’s you who will fall head over heels for me first.” I said. Sam stop running and he grab my hand. his eyes locked in mine and he smile.

“ Lets see about that.” He kissed my forehead then put his hands around my shoulder.

I can feel my heart starts to beat a little faster than its usually beat. I don’t know if its because what he said or because he kissed my forehead.  

“ Look, the sun is rising.” He pointed to the east and the most mesmerizing views caught my eyes, the sky turns from dark to a light shade of blue, to a darker shade of orange, and there it is, the magnificent sun. The center of our solar system, the light of our earth. As I’m watching the sunrise I realised that the person who’s stnding next to me was kinda my sun. He light up my day. He brought back my smile when thousand tears has fallen from my eyes.

But I’m not going to tell him and feed his ego.

“ Hey, do you still want to know why I take you to see sunrise than sunset?” he asked

“ Yeah, why?”

“ Because sunrise is a sign of a new day to do something great, a new chance, chance to be better than yesterday. Another chance for me to prove you that I still want to be more than friends with you. And believe me when I said everytime I see you, I get the feeling that I don’t want to let you go, even if the sun begin to set as the day end.” He smile

“ That’s sweet. So where would we be going after this? Because I’m very hungry.” I asked

“ Way to ruin the romantic moment. You don’t know how hard I wrote and practise those words in front of the mirror.” He pouted and I laugh.

“ Come on Sam, I love the idea of watching the sunrise with you. We should do this again sometimes. But right now, I’m really really hungry.” He finally smile and took me to one of the closest bench. As we sit, Sam took out some sandwich he made and for this time he let me eat in peace.

We both fell into a comfortable silence as we’re eating our breakfast while watching the sun getting higher. A couple people passed by, hike while enjoying the amazing views in front of them.

“ So... what’s next?” I asked.

“ Up to you. It’s your day. But we need to shower first, I have my clothes in the car.”

“  Lets go back to my house and you can use one of the guest bathroom.”

“ Okay, come on.” He took my hand again and together wo went back to his car. The ride from Griffith Park to my house is pretty long and I decide to sleep the whole time. It’s not my fault that someone woke me up at three and make me hike to see a beautiful sunrise. I didn’t regret waking up that early, not a single bit.

Its still pretty early in the morning. Who knows what adventure we both have today. But one thing I’m sure is no matter where we’re going today, I’ll always have fun as long as Sam was there with me.

well I know this chapter is very short but this is just a filling chapter. since school is already starting and I'm getting busier each day, I can't promise you a frequent update. probably only one chapter a month. but I'll try to update wnever I can.
