Horrible images flash through my mind. I scream. I see vicious wolf's teeth snap at my face. Something large and hairy like a gorilla grabs at my arms and legs and threatens to pull me into pieces. I hear babies crying for their mothers and I start to cry with them.
My eyes snap open. I'm panting hard. What a horrible dream. I shudder. Bright sunlight is flooding through my bedroom window. All that about the footsteps must have been a dream too. I knew it couldn't have been real. I hear Jason walking past my door from his bedroom. My mom is calling out to my dad to have a nice day at work. My dog Trixie starts barking. Wait. I don't have a dog named Trixie. I don't have a dog at all! I start to sweat and hyperventilate. I grab the sheets on my bed and clutch them tightly. Everything starts spinning and dipping out of proportion making my stomach turn violently. I hear a weird echoing noise and shut my eyes as tight as I can.
Everything comes to a halt. With my luck I'm probably in Munchkin Land right now. My heart is pounding but my senses feel clear and my breathing feels normal. I realize that I'm lying on the ground, sprawled on my stomach with one arm out in front of me, the other folded up beneath my stomach. My legs are stretched out behind me.
Suddenly, I feel my stomach turn. Oh no, I think. Please no... Then with a massive heave I throw up on the leaves in front of me. I pull back and sit up. Gross. I get up and stumble on a little farther through the trees. I have lost all sense of direction and am utterly alone. This is the longest night of my life.
Thump. Thump. Thump. Thump.
There's those steady, perfectly even, horrifying footsteps that started all this madness in the first place. They are coming at me now. I take a step back; they take a step forward. Back and then forward. I can't stand it anymore.
"Stop! What do you want from me?!" I screech.
I hear one more footstep and then they stop. Utter silence. Then a massive wave of fear - larger than ever swamps me, and as I drown under that wave I think I hear something, and my body starts to shake violently.
What's happening?!
