Blues P.O.V
The wind blew silently threw the trees as the deer grazed in the shade unaware of our presents. I stayed low to the ground and as still as stone as I watched my owner Daryl Dixon for the single. We had been tracking this deer for miles waiting for another shot. Daryl had already hit it twice but each time the damn thing spooks and runs before the arrow can hit right.
For the third time he lined up the shot and focused before pulling the trigger on his crossbow sending an arrow flying into the deer. It landed with a thump just behind the front leg sending the deer kicking into the woods.
"Damn" Daryl muttered as he dropped his crossbow to his side. "Stupid thing won't just drop and die". I looked up at him with my head cocked to the side waiting. Daryl sighed and then looked down to me with a small smirk and said, "Come on then, track it". I wagged my tail happily as I ran off to sniff out the blood trail with Daryl close behind. Finding it easily we started off after the deer praying that this time it would be dead.
Before the deer we had managed to catch about a dozen squirrels but a deer would be huge! I couldn't help but feel proud of the four squirrels I had caught for Daryl. I would bring them back to him head high and he would say I was a good dog and give me a pat. I'll do whatever it takes to make him happy and safe.
Not long into our tracking I freeze in misstep ears pricked forward. I could have sworn I heard someone screaming. Daryl stops beside me and asks, "what is it Blue?". This time we both her the scream and many running footsteps not far ahead. A low growl rumbles in my throat causing Daryl to look at me. "Easy Blue, let's go have a look", he says as we make our way quietly through the trees.
The closer we get the more I can hear what sounds like something getting hit with somthing hard. Then it all goes quite as my fur brushes against a bush and I give Daryl and apologizing look for it. He doesnt even look at me but says "stay" very quietly and continues to walk out of the woods into a little clearing. It is then I notice the strong smell of blood mixed with the deer scent we had been tracking. This makes me nervous and I wanted to go to Daryl but he told me to stay so I crouched down low and tried to see under the bush into the clearing whimpering to myself.
Then it happened.....
